Not sure he is thrown in but one that intrigues me is PATRICK SARSFIELD (54) - I don't even know if he will come and he probably won't go close to running the trip but at 100/1 i have had a small nibble. He is actually a winner in big fields unlike most of these (albeit in lower grade) and is unexposed.Anyone else thrown in ??

As a guide - I think Vow and Declare was the lowest to get in last year without winning a qualifier - he was #46 in the first OOE (-6.0 kg below benchmark)
Yes there is certainly some optimistic paths to the race being planned for those well down the pecking order, although I reckon Dawn Patrol is in there to make the pace for Santiago not to win and get in.If the plan is to get Dawn Patrol and Skyward into the Melbourne Cup, their placements (English St Leger and Prix Foy respectively) are surprising. They both probably need a win and re-handicap to get in, but they’ve chosen difficult races.
