Melbourne Cup Tips

I am going Vinnie Roe. Wouldn't be running him if there was any big doubt so I will back him even if there is no rain prior to the cup and any rain is a bonus. Is the biggest name in Ireland racing.

Hugs Dancer is my other choice. If the rain holds off that is. If the track is still good come race time then I'm on! I will be leaving it to the very last minute to back him. McEvoy deserves his chance to shine and the horse has been here for more than a year so should be better prepared this year plus has a jockey who will give him every chance. Plus it keeps the cup with an SA trainer! :D

For my trifecta, I am going to box Vinnie Roe,Hugs Dancer,Mamool,Makybe Diva and She's Archie.

I feel Mamool obviously has some ability to be posted favourite last year and failed due to injury so we were told. Hasn't been in the headlines like last year so you will get value.

Makybe, well you know she'll be coming home well.

She's Archie, injury cloud concerns me but I just have a funny feeling that if I leave her out she will do something and cost me bigtime.

I have had a good start to today. I got La Vie En Rose in the 1st, skipped the 2nd, nothing in the 3rd and then just went Sensational Spot for the PLACE!!! Damn, it won!!!! Got Hold Your Hennessy in the 5th.

I boxed five in a trifecta.

Makybe Diva
Media Puzzle
Vinnie Roe
Catchmeifyoucan
Another Warrior

$10 all up - Foreplay - Shirvirgo

Gone for a big trifecta as I think it is a very open race this year and now with the rain knocking out a number of the fancied runners will bring in some of the wet trackers.

50c Roving Banker Trifecta

Makybe Diva - the banker

Vinnie Roe
Elvstroem
Delzao
Grey Song
Pacific Dancer
She's Archie
Another Warrior
Upsetthym
Don Raphael
On A Jeune
Winning Belle
Catchmeifyoucan

It's a big bet but I can't narrow it down to just a few horses and the lightweights down the bottom all have good wet track form.

I am new to this, but I really like Grey Song. Not sure if its because it looks like its major ********ing down in Melbourne.

And of course the Diva, and Pacific Dancer for a place. Damn it too many!!!

I have gone for the win on Vinnie Roe and She's Archie. $20 each.
Also the daily double, Vinnie Roe,Mamool,Makybe Diva,Grey Song and She's Archie in the first leg and Turaga and Via De Lago in the 2nd leg.

33% outlay for 16% dividend? Someones getting rich.

Will Zazzman be the Chris Brasher to Elvstroems Roger Bannister? Both trained by Tony Vaisil. Im sticking with the Zazz I would cry if I jumped off him after watching him all year and he won especially at the odds...

Zazzman $10 E/W
Makybe Diva $10 E/W
Upsethym $5 E/W

Tri 1,5,12

Spread Tri 1,5,12/1,5,12,18,20,3/1,12,18,20,3

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

What was your total collect?

I was lucky I admit and I am no every day punter..

Total outlay $116 for a return of approx:$5300

Next bet maybe Perth Cup or follow Plastered till next November..

Plastered Australias next Northerly...get on him now for next years cup..he will be my ''eye spy'' horse.

12 - Zazzman - very hard to see it doing anything, especially with an apprentice jockey. Has won at distances close to it, but i just don't think it has the class

Couple of lengths off a few bitten bums. Had On A Jeune as a roughie so can't say much.

true, but i don't think we were the only ones. Hence, the reason it was 100/1.

In the end i didn't do too badly. Of the top 10 i picked earlier, 5 were in the top 6 or 7, 4 were in the bottom 7*, and Another Warrior was 13th i think.

*2 of those in the bottom 7, were the long shots who i thought would do well in this race Hard to Get and Don Raphael. Both were given every chance by their jockeys and were out pretty hard (especially DR), but as usual the class prevails in the MC and it's very hard for the lesser quality horses to hold on to their leads (don't think any not-top-quality horses have won from the front). As usual though, one or two long shots (> 40/1) always seem to do well and get in the top 6 (very rarely win) it's just a matter of getting lucky and picking them.

In the end, 34 bucks down isn't too bad on what is the hardest race to pick in Australia.

BTW Anyone have the final 24, got a quick glimpse on Sports Tonight, but not enough to take it all in.

I thought that Seamer did a good job to have it sitting behind the leaders. He did a bit of work to get there, but there wasn't much pace on, so he had a chance to have a breather and then make a run in the straight. Then he killed it by making it work again to take the lead and increase the pace. DR was the first one beaten.

Was just trying to come to grips with a last minute rush of blood I had for On A Juene. breeding and track = a good run was the sudden inspiration of a look through the bottom weights. Came ninth or tenth. There is to many horses in the cup for me. Nothing personal anyway, it was Tim 56's No way that struck me when I was going through the thread.

agree 100%.

About half way through i was getting excited cause it was getting a good ride, and it's in quite a few of my trifectas and you could be confident the class horses like Makybe Diva, Elvstreom, Vinnie Roe, Mummify (it didn't in the end) and Distinction would come to the front (who were also in my trifectas, and a few of them with DR). In the third quarter though he tried to ride it like it was a champion horse and thought he might be able to break the field.

He, along with Hard to Get's jockey (name aludes me for now), gave both those horses half a chance though, but the distance just tears those kinda horses a new arseh*le in the last 800 if you don't ride them absolutely perfect.

Mininmum trifecta cost will be $3.00. That will give you a 50cent investment ie You will get half the trifecta dividend. If you want a $1.00 box trifecta, each of those bets will cost you $6.00.

They will only cost $1.00 if you have them as straight out trifectas eg MD to win, Distinction to run 2nd, Mummify to run third.

In NSW you can put the amount you want to spend on the trifecta and get a percentage of the payout. Not available here in SA, nor ACT, Vic or anywhere else. It's a good idea and they should bring it in here.
