I recently made the journey to Royal Ascot to watch Miss Andretti and co. run in the UK.
After winning a cool £120 on MA, I then noticed the following day Yeats (ran in last years Melb Cup) was running, I backed it and it won the Ascot Gold Cup over 4000m  and it was running on well in the final furlong.

Get on it !!!

What was the thing that ran 2nd to Yeats in that race? Came from dead last, and was out here last spring.. He'll go alright. I have never been a fan of Yeats. I dont know why.

Got an email before off the TAB saying that on the 4th & 5th of August they will double the odds on any of the Japanese nominated horses for the cup.

Pop Rock at $27 odds on Betfair will do me just fine for a small flurry at this stage.

Take some of that.

He's too slow for the Cup.

Hes not too slow for the Melbourne Cup at all. The race is just run at a tempo that doesnt suit those types of Euro stayers. Take this years best Australian Melbourne Cup horse to the Ascot Gold Cup and it would be no hope.

He is too slow because of the tempo the race is run at. I remember one of the British trainers saying that their mile and a half horses would be better suited than their out and out stayers.

I for one got burnt with Yeats last year. With a little bit more of a patient ride, who knows what could have happened. On the turn it looked like he would finish near last, but he plodded on in the straight. I recall he was sitting around sixth one off the rail turning out of the straight the first time - why Fallon took off then, and then again 1000m out still bewilders me to this day.

Thats exactly what I just said. Its the early fast tempo and jostling for position that brings these high class Euro stayers undone, not being "too slow". Take a top Australian stayer over there and they would struggle doe to the tempo as well. Nothing to do with being too slow as such.

Top Euro mile and ahalf horses wouldnt be suited as theyd get even more weight than a horse like Yeats. He would be 4 or 5 lengths off the top mile and a half horses in Europe.

He's too slow for the Cup.

Have to agree, he doesn't have the speed to win a Melbourne Cup.

No doubt he's one of Europe & Uk's best horses but would have to be a champion to carry top weight and win, tried it last year and we saw what happened. Better suited to slow pace 4000m UK races.

Would like to see Gallic have a tilt at it...has won all the other cups!

He's earned my respect, a really good horse hopefully he runs a big one if he gets a start.

I don't think he's in the same league as his stablemates though.
