Oh really? How can you say that without knowing the extent of the injury. I'm more inclined to back the vets judgement.

Not all shoulder fractures are repairable

Nearly all shoulder fractures are repairable. They are shooting the animal not because the injury is life threatening but because it is uneconomically viable that it might return to being a race horse.

I understand horses for courses and everyone likes what they like - plenty of people would think aussie rules supporters are brain dead bogans etc and we all know that's not always true

But there is something about the spring carnival that screams so much wank - the only thing I've found that horse racing is good for is when scrolling thru dating site profiles i can instantly say 'no' to any woman who puts a photo of themselves up of them at the races - a great vetting tool

Oh dear....

As opposed to you coked up to your eyeballs stumbling out of Tramp at 10am?

The “ferals” stories are so boring. They were funny once upon a time years ago, now they’re just the same repetitive garbage as the rest of the “news”.

There’s 100k people at a party event, they station a few photographers out the front and photograph 20 pissed people, print and people lap it up “zomg ferals”

I really don’t get it. There’s bums everywhere. Who gives a ****?

Lol. Wtf are you about?

Here’s a vet or two, they’re all saying the same thing: https://www.couriermail.com.au/news...e/news-story/a33a952ebec2feb1ea575db0ed74f6cd

And to show even further how little clue you have - COM was a colt. Their economic value isn’t in their racing careers, it’s in their semen.

Colts are regularly retired from racing, completely healthy, at 3 or 4 years old.

Yeah I question whether some of these people have actually set foot in a racetrack in the last ten years, particularly at a big day. There are people everywhere. All types. There are some bogans yeah. There's some girls who drink too much yeah and carry on like dickheads. But there's plenty of normal people just going for a bit of fun because there's **** all else to do on a Saturday once footy season is over.

But nah it must all be bogans.

Firstly Animals are hard to control cant just put it in a cast and let it rest to heal.

and secondly, your point is valid. It would be like if my dog got injured/sick and Vet says, I can fix it but will cost you $10,000...........thanks, but how much is the lethal injection?

Firstly, none of sorted's points are.

Secondly, neither is yours.

This is a lot more valid (only 2 posts above your own)

In addition, if the injury to COM was repairable he would have been taken to the Equine Hospital at Werribee immediately and treated. Even if it meant that he would never be able to race again. This actually happens quite often. Kings Will Dream was injured in the Cox Plate and immediately taken to Werribee but you wouldn't know that would you because it didn't happen on Cup day?

KWD was actually just released from hospital yesterday and is back at the farm.

But as you say, won’t hear about that.

Who is KWD?

Kings Will Dream. Was favourite for the Caulfield Cup. Backed up in the Cox Plate and broke a pelvis in the run.

But they were able to get it straight to Ballarat Vet Hospital. It was touch and go but he’s been saved.

No way he’ll race again. Which according to sorted and Bomberboyokay means he’ll be shot any day now.

It's because the Melbourne Cup sells itself as some sort of elegant, upper class event - abide by the dress code, enjoy champagne in the marquee, have a flutter on the sport of kings, and you may even have a brush with celebrity. And so seeing the same type of drunken degeneracy that you'd expect to find at a music festival or a scungy nightclub is kind of funny. Saying that going to the races is for bogans is dumb and of course there are lot of normal people who go there to just enjoy the day. Seeing grown adults (who probably have a kid at home) falling over themselves while wearing $500 suits or dresses is just downright embarrassing though.
