Melbourne drafting blunders mount

I don't actaully live there but anyway nice try.
And no I didn't go to any motel. I'll leave the motel action to the greatest player in your history, Gary Ablett Snr.
What a proud day it must have been at Skilled Stadium when Gary contributed to the premature death of an impressionable young lass:thumbsu:

Dude. Weak.

Who was playing on that guy Brad? Was it the great Lachie Hanson?

Hansen stood Reiwoldt for 2/3rds of the game time in which Reiwoldt kicked 4 goals.

1 from that ridiculous soft dive and 2 others from passes that David Dench/Stephen Silvagni and Jack Regan combined would not have stopped.

Still, Lachie managed to pick up 19 disposals and 11 marks including an amazing 7 marks from StKilda I50's (Yes, a kid playing his 31st game actually outmarked Reiwoldt on several occasions) when Reiwoldt was getting the ball delivered on a platter.

Hansen is going to be a GUN. Fixed up Tredrea in round 1 and gave it to Kennedy on saturday.

Thats great, if you want your prized #3 draft pick playing the role of the stopper...is that what you drafted him for? I thought he was supposed to be a KP Forward? Gumbleton might not be setting the world alight but at least he's playing the position he was drafted for. Have Norf given up already?

You are clueless mate.

Hansen was an under 18 All Australian Centre Half Back.

This 21 year old "stopper" of 32 games experience is averaging 20 possessions and 8 marks a match this season.

He will be singlehandedly dismantling opposition forward lines by the time he is 25.

So he is just going to be a defender.

Why would you take a defender with your first pick?

Morton Trengove Frawley Grimes Jurrah Bennell Mackenzie Bail Wonaeamirri Petterd, all 21 or younger, just look at these draft blunders just stacking up

you lot are really start to shirt yourselves now

1. North needed a top defender.
2. Hansen was the best in his draft.

You have to remember that at the time we drafted Hansen, Gibson and Firrito were our KP defenders.

Suck it up, you jealous flogs.

Why? Because they made two Grand Finals? And won one? In comparison to being part of one of the greatest teams to have ever played the game in the 55-57 Melbourne team?

His tenture at NM is known for bringing one of the worst teams of all time in the 72 NM team to a flag in 75. He only did that because of his experiences playing at Melbourne under one of, if not the, greatest coach of all time in Norm Smith.

And he is "better known" and "liked" more for what he did at Sydney than what he did at North. He essentially created the brand up there.
Um, North made the GF 5 years running under Barassi, and won two. You are a real expert, aren't you?

I have read that the '55-'57 outfit was a great team. (Do you know anyone who's old enough to have seen them in action?)

Nice thread.
I went through North's drafting history since 2000.

2000-
Pick 8 - Motlop
Pick 14 - Harris
2001-
Pick 7 - Hale
Pick 14 - Watson
2002 -
Pick 2 - Wells
2003 -
Pick 9 - Trotter
2004 -
Pick 10 & 26 - Nathan Thompson
2005 -
Pick 13 & 29 - Daniel McConnell & Pick 18
2006 -
Pick 3 - Hansen
2007 -
Pick 15 - Tarrant

Super drafting & trading history cum stain
Go away, have a think, try again & close this thread:thumbsu:

haha he got you there! norf have picked some spuds!

You have to love North supporters. First they were hailing Ziebell as the biggest thing since Carey and now one hardly hears his name. He's slow and been pretty disappointing this year, although he at least pulled his finger out in the last quarter against Port.

And this of course brings me to the teams they've played. Bastinac was ordinary against the only decent team he's played - St.Kilda. Scully has had to go head to head with midfielders from Hawthorn, Adelaide and Collingwood. Bastinac averages 19 possessions whilst Scully has averaged 17. Big deal.

Also, Scully will never be a tagger. He's too good to be a tagger. They won't groom him as a tagger. There's no benefit in him tagging. Let the less talented footballers do the tagging.

I see Bastinac is already tagging.

Bastinac tagged Kerr?

When?

It's been reported he ran with him, but he certainly didn't play a negating role, as evident by his 3 tackles.

He however had 10 contested possessions, 5 clearances, 6 first possessions, 2 goal assists and 24 touches of the pill.

Not bad for a scragger.

Bastinac is all class, decision making, disposal.

Ziebell is in the top 10 in the AFL for tackles, the Top 15 for contested possessions, and the top 20 for clearances.

Not bad for a kid having a "down" patch according to you.

I guess you only verify his talent though with those high expectations, is in a different class to anyone on Melbourne list currently.
