This must be why Port Arthur is considered one the most successful gaols in Australian history. They need to know that if they break the law that there will be consequences. Break the law = lose your freedom. We need to make jail a less comfortable place for these offenders as well. The bottom line is that jail is not a great deterrence for these criminals. A lot of them look forward to going back to jail. I am all for rehabilitation in jail, so long as the broader environment in there isn't cushy. It needs to be uncomfortable, not have foxtel, pay tv, and better facilities than 90% of Australian's have access to.

Can't wait. The dirty Proddies will get what's coming to themThen the Catholics would start fighting the Protestants again
Yeah...........no they wouldn't .I agree deport them and their families immediately they belong in the 3rd world not here .They are nothing like previous migrants these are uncivilised and nothing good can come out of having them here. They are AFRICAN males who are generations away from being able to live and behave accordingly in a Western country shouldn't be our problem .Then the Catholics would start fighting the Protestants again
Youth unemployment a massive taboo in Victoria (and potentially australia). Areas like Hume (North west) dandenong and many country areas have rates of above 25% youth unemployment. Could easily correlate issues like ice usage and crime to unemployment and overall job prospects.
Easily is the word. Most kids suffering disadvantage don't become druggies, thugs and thieves. It's very often those where parental guidance has been found wanting.Youth unemployment a massive taboo in Victoria (and potentially australia). Don't forget MC3.From Dandenong.
It was 3174 back in my day.

Cousin of mine is a detective in Dandenong, says the Islander kids are rippers, individually. They get fingered for a crime, he pulls them out of school and asks "was it you who stole this car?"
"yes"
"what about the Audi from last week?"
"nah, that was me mate such and such."
"anything else?"
"yeah, we did a B&E last week at such and such address."
He then takes the kid home to mum, who is demonstrably upset. Para phrasing etc but he maintains these kids have good hearts and will turn out to be solid citizens when they grow up and get jobs.
It's highly unsatisfactory. I'm just unconvinced by the woe is me argument that thuggery, theft, general unsociable behaviour is attributable solely to lack of job opportunities. The reality is that most people in that terrible predicament don't resort to thuggery, theft and unsociable behaviour. There's more to it than that. Poor parenting being a significant one.if there is 25-50% no jobs its a bit of a pickle is it not?

Heh. More Crime x 3.
My Brother and his mate were in CI and RDC. Both writers.
WCA, DMA, PFK, CI, 3174 etc. Melbournes nascent Hip Hop scene. Those were the days.
They did let the convicts out, gave them guns, told them to slaughter the blacks and then locked them back up when there was none left to kill. That makes it up there with the best. This must be why Port Arthur is considered one the most successful gaols in Australian history.
Not exclusively no.

Back in the day, most low level street gangs were white (PFK, 3174, Dandy boys, Frankston boys etc) and the occasional Vietnamese gang, with the Bikies above them, and the Italian heavy hiters and certain 'elements' of VICPOL calling the shots from up above.
VICPOL has been largely purged of the worst elements, and the Italians have been quiet lately (however I note the recent slaying overnight that tells me something is going on). The Vietnamese elements have died down, and the bikies have been getting targetted heavily as a result, so its not surprsing (particularly having regards to the meth epidemic, new migrant groups being introduced and the recent recession) that street level gangs are starting to flourish again.
Was PFK a gang or just a graffiti crew from the Frankston line?
I know a lot of the original guys are boobheads/drug stuffed nowadays. Still pissfarting around Frankston.
