From an outsider looking in and lets say i'm going for the vacant coaching job, would this be a fair best side to pick for you guys from what i've seen

B: Strauss Frawley Garland
HB: Grimes Rivers Tapscott
C: Blease Trengove Gysberts
HF: Howe Martin McKenzie
F: Jurrah Watts Davey
Foll: Jamar Sylvia Moloney
Inter: Petterd Green Cook Jones
Emerg: Wonaeamirri Bartram Dunn

And this is considering Scully is gone which i think he will be.

Thoughts?

A very very good effort from an outsider.

Couple of minor points - doubt Strauss will play a heap of footy next year after his double leg break, and Cook might be looking more at 2013 than 2012 for senior footy.

Bring in Bail and Morton at a guess.

Get off the bong mate.

Scully, Morton, Bail and Green will all be in our best 22 next year.

McKenzie on the forward flank? No, just no.

Either show us YOUR best 22 or settle down. No good having a crack at his effort when you give none of your own.

Scully won't be at the club next year, Morton will be lucky to be in our best 25 and Green is named on his bench. Bail I agree with and you could probably swap him in for Strauss who will take time to recover from his injury. Swap McKenzie and Sylvia and he has it about right.

It's not a bad effort, Cook should get some game time next year... but I doubt it will be as a best 22 player.

I'd change McKenzie and Sylvia, probably move Watts to CHF, play Howe from the goal square, Green to a flank and Martin to start on the bench (even though he will be a key member)

Love it how everyone knows Scully is definitely leaving, yet when I spoke to him two weeks ago he said he is 90% staying at Melbourne.

Morton is clearly in our best 25. I am sick of our idiot supporters getting stuck into him. How about we back these guys and show a bit of confidence in them instead of ripping them down at every opportunity.

I cannot sit down and name what our best 22 will be in 2011 when things can change so dramatically between now and then. I am sure nobody had Stef Martin in their best 22 this time last year but now he would be in everyone's best 22.

Most important thing is to have an injury free and full preseason, will make a world of difference. The other is to re-sign required uncontracted players.

How many of our players from that "best 22" have had an injury free season?

If true....

I don't like this 10%, I'd be happier if it was 99%. Personally I think he owes us. He's had the second year blues this year and his knee is clearly not right.

His selfishness has done the team more harm than good and he should be embarrassed if he takes the money and runs cos he's done nothing to earn it.

My best 18
B: Grimes, Frawley, Rivers
HB: Blease, Garland, Bail
DEPTH: Bennell, Tapscott, Nicholson, Strauss, Davis and McDonald

I think we really have something to work with in this area especially if we can keep Grimes fit. The run and carry that Blease and Bail could provide will be vital to our success. Having a backline coach that isn't a nomad hack will also help.

C: Scully, Moloney, Jones
FOLL: Jamar, Trengove, McKenzie
DEPTH: Gysberts, Morton, Davey, Bartram, Evans, Martin, Gawn, Fitzpatrick.

If Pretendergast still has a job he has to focus on this area early in the draft, can't believe they didn't do it last year after losing McDonald and Bruce. We don't have a lot of pace and are too relient on Moloney.

We can't afford to stuff up, I'd still consider trading Morton and Jones if we can get a pick in the teens for them.

HF: Sylvia, Watts, Petterd
F: Jurrah, Fevola, Lovett
DEPTH: Green, Howe, Wonaeamirri, Jetta

I think our forward line is a mess. I don't think Petterd and Green can play in the same forward line and I don't think Howe and Jurrah can play in the same forward line.

Call me crazy but I think we should go for both Fevola and Lovett cos we need experience, both can play, both fill a major weakness, both will be bargain basement buys and both have a point to prove. People won't like it cos the media like to get into social misfits but we are here to win football games. I say **** THE MEDIA! Pick them up with our last 2 picks.

Not convinced we should be signing Sylvia just because he has finally put in a good performance. Where the **** has he been all year? That won't be forgotten, definate trade bait.

I would like our bench all year to consist of 3 midfielders\running half backs with one of the 3 as a sub and the usual 1 ruckman.

If Shane Tuck is not offered a contract next year by Richmond, get him!!! He smashed us at the clearances yesterday. We all know his weaknesses. But he is exactly what we need. A harder body who is great at stoppages.

Make it happen.

1. Scully is gone, please don't make things up.

2. Morton is a pea heart who has been given multiple chances but refuses to consistently put his body on the line and for someone with really good skills turns it over too often.

Not sure if serious. Jones has been one of your best this season

So you can't believe how weak our midfield is, and you want to trade Jones, producing possibly his best season, and Morton?

I do agree that we need to focus on our midfield though. We get smashed at the clearances all the time. It's our biggest weakness imo (worse than a lack of a true power forward)

What is the consensus on Morton and Sylvia's futures at Melbourne? Is the former out of contract as well as the latter? Do you think they will stay?

This post is pure curiosity.

Yet, TheDr, we drafted players noted for their clearance ability.

ie. Scully, Trengove, Gysberts

All will be very good clearance players at the least when they bulk up and gain some experience.

Sylvia stated that he wants to stay with us and repay us for having faith in him, Morton will stay as well.

Both are out of contract.

Sylvia will almost certainly stay (came out last night and said as much).

Morton I'm not sure on. Most fans would cut their losses with him if given the chance. If he wants to stay I'd personally be more inclined to keeping him. It will come down to whether the new coach rates him I suppose. If he does leave, it wouldn't take much to land him.
