Yet, TheDr, we drafted players noted for their clearance ability.

ie. Scully, Trengove, Gysberts

All will be very good clearance players at the least when they bulk up and gain some experience.

Yes, true....and young Viney is supposedly a clearance machine too. Obviously patience is going to be needed, but jeez it is certainly very frustrating:(

Love it how everyone knows Scully is definitely leaving, yet when I spoke to him two weeks ago he said he is 90% staying at Melbourne.

Morton is clearly in our best 25. I am sick of our idiot supporters getting stuck into him. How about we back these guys and show a bit of confidence in them instead of ripping them down at every opportunity.

I cannot sit down and name what our best 22 will be in 2011 when things can change so dramatically between now and then. I am sure nobody had Stef Martin in their best 22 this time last year but now he would be in everyone's best 22.

Mate rather than going around bushes give us evidence why he is not leaving the dees. I am sick of everyone's mystery sources.

But they are all experts! They are in the know.

Quick-fix, offers us nothing long term.

True, but if he cost us nothing I think he would give us that bigger body around the contest that we need so badly while our younger mids develop. Jordie McKenzie went to him at bounces at one stage because he was murdering us at clearances.

We need to look outside the square. Tuck would not be a long term fix, but he would immediately make us more competitive.

I think most of our young mids will improve significantly with a third pre season.

Look for another 3-4 kilos in Scully, Gysberts, Mckenzie, Trengove, Blease

Hopefully another 5 in Morton.

That in itself will bring much more competive performances.

I think we have to at some stage look for shorter term fixes. This pie in the sky premiership team in 5 years is starting to annoy me.

I find it hard to believe that our kids are going to carry us to a premiership without more help from senior players. We don't have a proper balance at all.

I don't know about Tuck though, I think he'll stay at Richmond. What about his brother? How is he going at Werribee?

Imagine having Tuck, Fevola and Lovett in the one team? I'm not sure if we'll win too many games but Mad Monday will be awesome.

B. Grimes Frawley MacDonald
HB. Blease Garland Bennell
C. Scully Moloney Trengove
HF. Jones Watts Howe
F. Jurrah Jamar Aussie
R. Martin Sylvia McKenzie
IC. Petterd Cook Bail Tapscott

Still crying out for a small forward, don't think LJ or Aussie fit the bill. Other than that the team looks good. Just needs confidence and some stability/structure. They also need to learn to stay in the game and not spectate, hopefully something a good coach can drum into them.

So that leaves out
Green, Maric, Rivers, Dunn, Scully(hes gone), Maric, Jetta, Davey

*Bartram to spend the pre season learning how to kick again, if he cant, either Blease/Davey to come in

I totally agree with you Spirit.

Its not about a long term fix, its about helping out the youngsters while they develop their bodies.

Complete tunnel vision from you TPM as per usual, think about how Tuck could actually help us rather than hindering.

Tuck is a total professional from all reports, you never hear him bitching or whinging that he is play VFL. Also has a great work ethic.

Would be great fit for us, a hardened body who wouldnt cost anything and could show our youngsters how to go about it for 2-3 years.

I guess you have to look at the balance between mature recruits denying our developing guys games, and giving them confidence and a good example to follow. Inevitably bringing a short term option in means denying a long term one games, so the return we get has to be significantly more effective than whoever they are replacing to make it worth while.

Fair enough.

If Tuck will not keep one of our young mids out of the team, then I'm all for it.

I'm not convinced that he won't.

I'm not convinced he will leave Richmond either.

I'm not convinced that he will even have a spot in our team next year.

Honestly? If we get him for free I won't complain.

B - Tapscott Frawley Rivers

HB - Grimes Garland Bail

C - Gysberts Trengove McKenzie

HF - Petterd Howe Sylvia

F - Jurrah Watts Davey

R - Jamar Scully Moloney

IC - Blease Jones Green Martin

I dont care how shit we are at the moment, every out of contract coach will be banging down the MFC doors to get a crack at our list.

The only mature recruit I can see we really need is a forward, tall or small. We just don't have a big bodied forward at all. For mids, we have Sylvia, Moloney, Jones with Trengove likely to put on some decent size and Tapscott a chance to get a run through the middle too. Tuck is only worth consideration (if he's even available) if it's determined he's better than what we already have, and I'm not sure he is. Fev is worth considering only under strict circumstances - one year deal for cheap with get-out clause if he brings trouble. Lovett just isn't worth consideration, rape charges aside, he messed up with StKilda within his first few weeks of his second chance.

My team would be:

B - Tapscott Frawley Bennel

HB - Grimes Garland Rivers

C - Blease Trengove Scully

HF - Petterd Watts Sylvia

F - Howe Jurrah Green

R - Jamar McKenzie Moloney

IC - Gysberts Jones Martin Davey/Morton

Hmm, it's difficult to try and put down a best 22 and get everyone in a good position.

B. Rivers Frawley Bennell
HB. Grimes Garland Blease
C. Jones Sylvia Trengove
HF. Tapscott Watts Howe
F. Petterd Jurrah Jetta
R. Jamar Moloney Mckenzie
IC. Martin Morton Bail Gysberts

And this is taking the pessimistic view that Green and Davey won't recapture their good form (though we all hope that they do) and that Scully is gone (which I personally think he is). I don't personally know enough about Cook, Fitzpatrick and Davis to know where and when they will best slot in.

Strauss will hopefully push for selection again once he is right but that will take awhile. Macdonald, Nicholson, Evans, Maric and Bartram are probably our depth players if and when we cop injuries. Maric should be persisted with under a new coach to see if he can become the small forward we need. Also, he frustrates me to no end but I believe Morton can also turn it around under a new coach.

I'm not sure how Gawn is going to play into this. He is a real talent and we should do everything we can to develop him but pending injuries it's a pretty tight fit.

Bate and Dunn should both be traded if they have value or delisted if they don't. Dunn may just have enough credit to hold on for another year but he's not in our best 22 now and won't ever be.

Oh and bye bye Juice, thanks for the memories...

IF we are fair dinkum, the "outs" for 2012 should be:

"Spud" Newton
"Spud" Morton
"Spud" Bate
"Spud" Bartram
"Spud" Green
"Spud" Warnock
"Spud" Davey

And don't get stuck into me because I am just stating the bleeding obvious. NONE of the above should be getting a regular game because their current form just does not cut it.

Like I said...lets get fair dinkum here. Would The Pies put up with the crap kicks that Bartram delvers each and every week FFS???

Would The Hawks put up with Davey and his lack of G & D??

and what about Green.....if he wasn't Captain, he would have been dropped ages ago.

So....if anything in 2012 we should not be handing out cheap games to players who don't deserve to pull on the jumper.

And yes there are others on the borderline :
Jurrah...I'm sick of this lazy frontrunner of a footballer.

LJ take a look at Jonesy: a guy who has half your ability but will deliver an effort ten times what you dish out , you lazy man.

2012???...I just hope we start to get fair dinkum for a change...stop being a "Mr Nice Guy" club. I have had a gutful of what teh MFC have been dishing out to its faithful supporters.

Stop giving us fainthearts liek Green & Davey....give us Jones, Watts, Beamer....show some anger FFS.

That is all.

All sound reasoning ..except that Tuck is a spud

My line up would be..

B: Rivers Garland Bennell
HB: Grimes Frawley Jones
C: Blease Trengove Scully
HF: Howe Watts Petterd
F: Jurrah Martin Green
R: Jamar Moloney Sylvia
Int: McKenzie Tapscott Gysberts
S: Macdonald (not tactical, purely as our 22nd best player)
Emg: Gawn, Cook, McDonald, Bartram, Jetta

Thanks for clarifying my theory that you are one eyed and have little knowledge about any other teams players. :thumbsu:

PS: Check the stats sometime for clearences per game.

Happy with the back 7 (6+Blease) but think we could do with another mid sized type for when we come up against a super tall side. The midfield needs Scully to stick around and then for guys like Sylvia, Davey, Blease, Petterd, Grimes to add to their ability to run through the midfield.

The forward line will continue with too many midsizers and not enough big and small. Replacing Green and Davey with a real sized full forward and crumber would really improve the mix. Maybe Davey can become that next year.

Martin has made massive improvements but has to keep going. I don't think having your resting ruckman in the backline is a viable long term plan. He has to add strong forward work to his skills and increase his hit outs. I hope Fitzpatrick gets a run this week and can see what he needs to do to be a contender for that second ruck spot.

I'd like to see more game into the following kids, even if it's the expense of older players. Most are obvious, a couple not so much...

Watts
McKenzie
Scully
Trengove
Gysberts
Tapscott
Blease
Gawn
Cook
McDonald
Nicholson
Fitzpatrick
Howe

Would love to have Tuck for a couple of seasons, he'd compliment our kids very nicely.
