In about 5 years I think it could be close to 50/50 at least in terms of media coverage. There will be a lot of league supporters who will want to watch K. Hunt play his first game of AFL because most of them will be hoping that he is a screw up for leaving league. Even if he fails as a player after 2-3 years its a win for AFL vs NRL if some league fans start watching some games.
The Lions had over 33,000 at the Bulldogs game while...
Getting closer every year.
( I would be horrified if they gave the 2007 premiership to Manly! Manly for god sake!
)
when afl appears first on the sports reports on brisbane tv you know that day has come.

Storm player agents on NRL hit list
Posted April 24, 2010 11:29:00
Agents for the Melbourne Storm's list of stars could be hit with limitless fines and have their accreditations removed as the NRL steps up its investigations into the shamed club's salary cap scandal.
The NRL has seized new documents which expose the Storm paying three of its players through third-party agreements.
There are three letters detailing payments for three players. Two of those three letters were signed by the players and their agents; all three were signed by former Storm chief executive Brian Waldron.
I found Gallop's statements alarming for the NRL when answering questions by Gould http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz5TEw9-jrI.
- The NRL want to give average clubs the best players from other clubs directly through the salary cap. Compare to the AFL where some star players go to other clubs but it is not that easy and certainly not guaranteed.
- Doesn't seemed outwardly concerned that losing >100 players to the UK, rugby and even 1 to the AFL.
It also gives an insight to the administrators that would rather close games and as a consequence are not really rewarding successful and innovative teams.
The thing that Gallop said in his initial media conference that has really not sat right with me has been "This is not a time to debate the salary cap".
Well sorry old boy, but it is. Like it or not, NRL is a game that can be sold more easily to overseas markets than AFL, yet AFL smashes NRL for income, and it all comes down to TV Rights money. News Ltd's controlling stake in the NRL is what's killing it. It's what the administration should be trying to fix asap. As you said, they should be massively concerned with having 100+ players leaving for other countries/codes.
