Melbourne - What am I missing?

Pretty much spot on mate, all that. I am an aide and I earn more/the same as a teacher in the USA. So it is all relative. But yes, I've pretty much let go the "dream" of owning a house. Yet that doesn't really phase me in the least, would be happy with a flat/smaller type of property anyway. Houses with a big yard would be a bitch to maintain anyway.

Love the GOR. I reckon in my old age (in b4 you there already) I'd like to live in Apollo Bay, its gorgeous. The distance from Melbourne does worry me a little tho. One day perhaps maybe I'd like to live in Geelong. Like 50 mins on a train and you're in Melbourne so that's not too bad.

Apollo Bay is my retirement location, get your own!! Curry Pie from the bakery is like a mouth orgasm, so good and a 4.5/5.2 on my scale.

AB will probably be overrun and out of my/our price range by the time we get to retirement. Will be another Lorne.

And like i said 2.5 hours out of Melbourne is probably a bit too far for me.

Hope not, it's big enough to have what you need but small enough so it's not overrun with drunk teenagers trying to drink & shag on the beach every weekend.

Would love to live in Torquay but summer would be horrible down there, the tourists and how busy it gets would be frustrating.

Could never live in Adelaide, being so close to both McLaren Vale and Barossa would mean the end of my liver. Great town though. Only place I've ever seen a pub with a driving range in it.
Don't forget the Claire Valley and Adelaide hills wine regions. God my liver hurts.

The Crown complex. Awful.
I'm just glad Melbourne hasn't gone the way of Sydney, where all late night drinking now leads to the Casino.

It truly is a hole. Takes up a big chunk of real estate in a good location, gambling there gets old quickly (and the casino is horrible looking), the food courts are filled with all sorts of weirdos and the massive arcade I remember being filthy as well.

I stayed in a hotel room there when I was younger. I remember that being relatively nice, but all paths lead to walking through the trashy areas or the casino and there's *******s everywhere.

When my mates and I turned 18 we went there several times because we thought it was such a cool thing. Losing money quickly got tiring, and drinking there is like blowing two weeks wages for a uni student.

Only thing I rate about the place is the big sportsbar that has massive screens. The atmosphere for the EPL there was pretty good.

The biggest thing I hate about Malbun is that it is responsible for TV shows like Offspring, The Secret Life of Us and Winners and Losers.

Add The Wrong Girl that list of thoroughly shitful made in Malbun female schlock TV. All these shows are basically the same show filmed in a different cafe.

That sounds ideal to me, I lived an hour west of London, and loved it. Close enough to go up town without any hassles, and far enough away that there was plenty of fresh air, and open spaces.

Where abouts?

As for our driving - I think ability wise we are ok vis a vis the rest of the world but when it comes to courtesy we are absolute world leading campaigners

I once lived in North London and commuted to Brighton every day on the train. Only took 1h45.

Geting into or out of London quickly is one thing they do that Melbourne really struggles with.

Bloody hell. How long were you working in Brighton?
That daily commute would wear me out in a week.

4 months. Was long enough. Wouldn't have done it but the rate was too had to say no to.

I have worked with a lot of people here with a bigger commute.

Yeah peak "hour" is getting worse and worse in Melbourne. Its also stretching from about 3pm to 6:30pm.
