Melbourne - What is Really the Problem

And what a pointless article anyway. The dude made his observations in 2011. At a time it's been acknowledged Melbourne's training was shit. Neeld and Craig have said they couldn't believe how unfit the players were under Bailey, and the players are only now training at elite AFL standard. The dude says he finds it hard to believe things might have changed. He could open his eyes. The dude says you play how you train. And yet Craig has been slammed for saying Melbourne have been training well.

We're shit, no doubt about it, but there's better suggestions as to what's wrong with Melbourne and how to fix it from random flogs on the thread quoted by Bluelegs above.

No it's not. It's hopeless. It adds nothing. And it's very poorly written.

It adds a massive first hand insight into why Melbourne are where they are. 2 years ago clearly they were nowhere near working hard enough - Melbounre supporters admit that. That culture has permeated the club for maybe 5 years before that and will take time to reverse. Even if it has been reversed already the players are still years behind their competition.

Whether Melbourne supporters like it or not, that culture is the reason Scully left. It is the reason any number of others have left. And it is the reason more will go at the end of this year.

That's all true. But the article is still pointless. The author uses 2 year old observations to extrapolate to now. All he's calling for has already come to pass. Dumb

If Melbourne are looking for another coach I have hird that a coach from a big Melbourne club might be interested.

2 year old observations are valid when a club has had internal/board/administration issues for 5 decades. Getting players fitter this year won't change the way the club is run and how the football department is managed. Sacking Schwab might well be the right decision but it calls into question the decision made to unsack him last time around. Either he was the right man or he wasn't. maybe he just had the right people's ear which is what I think a large part of MFC issues stem from.

Until MFC members elect the right board the best that can happen is wallpapering cracks. You don't perform poorly over 5 decades for no reason. Geelong are where they are now because of their board. After 2006 they could have gone either way but the right people made the right calls. How can Melbourne members have any confidence that this is the case for them?

I think their biggest problem is they stuff up player development so much so that when other teams take them they have to be un-demonised. Gysberts still cries himself to sleep over the memory of that club. Fear not Melbourne youngsters,if you leave soon enough other clubs can fix you...we have the technology!
