Stats mean little, but for a player who was so dominant as a midfielder in 2000 his numbers arent impressive.

Heffernan for Essendon in 2000:
Games Played: 21
17th at Essendon in kicks
15th at Essendon in handballs
19th at Essendon in marks

His 2001 and 2002 stats are even worse.

From what I remember of the 2000 season Joe Misiti, Jason Johnson, Adam Ramanauskas, Blake Carracella, Mark Mercuri, Michael Long, Justin Blumfield, James Hird and Mark Johnson were all more effective midfielders.

Why Brisbane went after him is anyones guess. Funilly he would probably fit in up there without being overly impressive because he'd have the strong ballwinners around him like he did at Essendon in 2000. But ask him to be a leading midfielder and he's just not upto it.
He was close to the best tagger in the league in 2000. He kept our very own Shane Woewodin to 17 touches in the Grand Final. He didn't get 20 touches a game because he was stopping the opposition's best midfielder every week. Hence his Australian selection.

I can tell you why Brisbane were keen to get him last year. He is a gun.

From your other post:

"partly because our clueless coaching staff see something in him."

So does Leigh Matthews, and every other Melbourne supporter excluding you and George_on_the_Outer.

This George_on_the_Outer sounds like a very knowledgeable football observer. I don't know how many fans Heffernan has on Demonland or Demonology because I don't go there that often but I know people away from the internet who have the same opinion as me.

I don't know what Leigh Matthews sees in him. Kevin Sheedy who's coached him for the majority of his career definitely doesnt see it.

There's even a poster on here who played with him in the under 18 competition who thinks he's a dud.
