Environment Melbourne's Crazy Weather

The thunder from the storm is very loud and there is some lightning as well. There have been some great light shows in Melbourne. This storm may have come from the current cyclone system up north.

Great pic of the tornado.

Huge crack of thunder in that last band and plenty of hail. One more heavy band in about 15-30 minutes and that's it.

Hail now in Kew, is far heavier than the last storm we had like this at the start of 2010.

I remember playing cricket when that storm hit - I don't think this one tops it. That was sideways rain and you couldn't see ten feet in front of you at its worst.

Crazy weather, nonetheless. Darwin has been outplayed.

There's been lightning over the inner-city area for the last few hours. I got a shock when I was trying to fix my damn aerial.

Something I have noticed about Melbourne is that cloud hovers fairly low to the ground and this makes for spectacular lightning displays.

Think this one has been more varied & longer in duration than the one a few years ago. Hail, heavy rain, lightning, humidity, like Bill Lawry says, it has had it all.

Lots of hail damage in my area, both my cars, neighbors with flooding galore.

Just stood at the front of the house looking out into the street for a good few minutes during the apex of the storm in the western suburbs. At one point the trees were literally sideways and the rain was blowing in through the front door.

Every 20-30 seconds or so we'd get the sky cracking open above us followed by the lightning.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a minor tornado roaring down our street. Certainly larger and windier than anything else I've experienced.

Loudest thunder/lightning I've ever heard. Seriously did anyone hear something that was just mindblowing today? I live south east and there was one at 7am this morning that seriously woke me up in an instant. I'm normally asleep through anything. Then again at maybe 6 o'clock there was another crack which had everyone out of their seats and into change their undies...

Well that was the ****ing bomb. Both the gutters in our back yard got blocked. My dad and I had to throw every drop of water down the hill at the side of our house ourselves and saved the house from flooding. Massive win. The street at the bottom of our hill was about a foot under water. But it was heaps worse in other parts of town.

Definitely a Christmas I won't forget for a very long time.

"There was a tornado reported at Fiskville and we know it touched down at Keilor Downs because we had some SES volunteers there and they had to run for shelter," Mr Quick said.

Yeah, that's the one that had Etihad damaged I think. Last night was very bad were I live, loudest thunder I've ever heard. If it wasn't for being out with family all day for Christmas I would of went skimboarding in somebodies yard

I also woke up from probably the loudest thunder I've heard. Worked a treat as an alarm though, sounded like the sky cracked open. Luckily only very small hailstones in Point Cook so no damage. There's something about a heavy rain/lightning storm that I have to drop everything and just peer out the window and just watch the rain come down.

Add Montmorency to that list. Fences gone. Houses inundated (not ours thankfully). Streets turned into rivers.

I went to look at the storm clouds and the sun came out about 7.50 pm. It seemed to be pulsing, but that wasn't the weirdest part, I could look at the sun without having my retners burnt out.
