Could but lot of People said he was Miles better as a Defender then as a Forward in the TAC Cup and U-18 Champs. Though I liked what I saw oin the 2 games this Season in the VFL when he was up Forward
Yeah, but sometimes how a player performs in U18 is vastly different to them at AFL level. Murphy played as a forward in U18, yet they thought he would be better as a defender.

That is True

Apparently Lynch was going to debut over Cox in the West Coast game we won by a point but obs didn't as he hurt his shoulder in the VFL. Cox went on to kick 4 that night.
Wow. At least he is close, and another pre-season and development will take him a step further. Big bloke, but still very young.

Then why did he NOT Debut after Cox's Eye Injury?

Tohill down back screams McLarty through the ruck to me...

Third tall may work perhaps. Where he can use his size and athleticism to intercept. Tohill doesn't project well for any position to me though. He seems more a flanker. I thought wing might be an option. He has a bit of space for his speed there and can run at the goals. He seems more comfortable when he's heading towards goal.

I don’t think the games ready for it, but 6’6 wingman are the future, IMO. The flexibility of running your back up ruck off of a wing is massive because it allows you to hold your forward structure and solidifies your bench structure. Is Tohill the man? Not for mine because he lacks the footy nous that mids need. Unfortunately I think you’re right that a flank role probably suits him best and I doubt he makes it at the top level in that role. It’s hard enough for a guy like WHE!

It seems the club may have clued in to the relevance of winning on the psyche of members because without Guy, Hine or Walsh being involved it’s a colossal waste of time. The only other insight I’ve had was the Cox/ Lynch chat which was interesting only because it showed Cox was that close to getting dumped. Lynch is coming and Cameron is on board now so I don’t think his spot is safe in the best 22 without actually performing in 2020. That’s a big step forward, IMO.

Reckon the club might purposefully keep him in the twos next year to avoid triggering the extra year on the contract?

Ask me in a week 👍

More seriously though I could come at this about 100 different ways so ultimately it depends on the trigger. Let’s assume McClure was right and it’s 1 game. All things being equal he’s going to be ahead of the other two come Rd 1 so you play him when he warrants it and if things go to shit you do a JJ. You don’t get the salary relief you want, but you at least get some. The alternative feels to much like cutting your nose off to spite your face*.

The reverse is he plays well enough to contribute so we either mutually part ways at decent value (unlikely) or we keep him. For me because of poor decision making on his last contract we’re in no man’s land where we either lose him for a lot less than he’s actually worth or to get the value we want he’ll be a required player. This is where the impact of stupid contracts from years prior hits hardest! I’m looking at Gubby here, but let’s not go there.

*if the trigger is 10+ games or we bring Riccardi in then things get interesting.

Bit like Josh Fraser?

Not to me. The second I saw Tohill I thought he looked a CHB type. Worth a shot there.

Not sure what the Club saw in him that screamed forward. Showed nothing there in terms of game awareness and leading patterns IMHO and lacks physicality (needs a lot more weight).

But he is tall and can read the flight well.

Will be hard to groom both him and Kelly in the same position, which is why I was perplexed when Kelly was out for the season, why a poor performing Tohill was left to stink it up forward. We were too patient IMHO.

Josh Fraser was a good ruckman I think. I felt like the injury he sufferred in that state game really robbed him of his best years just as he was hitting his straps.

I think we've seen that with Blicavs and with the right player could be really damaging. An Embley type wing just add a few cms. Wilson might be an interesting player there but I wonder if he quite has enough athletically?

Walsh stated the surface is not to blame for any injuries or players pulling up sore, that was mainly what the person asking the question was getting at

Did he say why they have so many Injuries or are they still Clueless?

Apparantely Greenwood is on track for a mid-season return! :O

I hope they put some effort into fan engagement outside of Melbourne. I don't think we can call ourselves the biggest club in Australia until we take that seriously and currently we just don't. It's this forum and efforts like your training posts that keep me in touch with our club and I really value yours and others work doing that.
