Membership 2020

Highly unlikely given only 4 games in Melbourne in 2020 for the cost of membership. Absolutely no value whatsoever for most families with limited budget's and in fact, it is cheaper for most to attend games without a membership.

I'll always continue being a member without question, but certainly understand why many won't renew here in Victoria in 2020.
100% agree. I applaud your dedication Dylan, but I am letting my Victorian membership lapse because four games is poor value for money. I’ll go to the games, but won’t rejoin until we get a better deal.

I received an e-mail from the club saying they'll throw in a membership to the women's team as well if I renew. I guess the fan of the WAFL hasn't rejoined yet either

Yeah same. Looks like they are consciously beefing up the value of the non-ticketed memberships.

All good. My son loves his new lunchbox!

We have a family membership, so the kids got the drink bottle and lunchbox. Drink bottle with their names on it, and lunch box with the player on it that we chose for their membership card. The mrs and i got drink bottles as well, i believe, as part of our womens membership.

Has anybody had any luck getting an interstate non-attendance membership when living in far out regions of Victoria or Queensland? I live East Gippsland, 5 hours from the MCG, and will probably only be able to make it to one game this year but want the opportunity to upgrade to a September member. A Victorian membership is very poor value for money for me, and I'm currently burning money on a Gold AFL membership which represents very little value apart from a Grand Final ticket at the moment.

When I lived in Warrnambool I was able to take out a Victorian Country (Family) Membership. I’m not sure if that category is still offered by the club. In 2004 for example I only attended a couple of games, but come the Grand Final I had my tickets organised in about 10 minutes. It seemed that there was a separate phone line for this category of members and I got through after two rings. If this package is still offered, it could be an option.

So many different memberships available these days, I wonder if we could come up with some type of 'Brisbane is my second team' membership. Surely we'd get a few Hawks members with the Fagan, Hodge & Birchall link.

Maybe they could make one for disappointed league fans looking to jump on the bandwagon. It could be called the 'bitter broncos package'

Hi Lions
Just hoping for some feedback on season seats at the Gabba; I've had a membership with my sister for a few seasons now, bottom tier section 31 (towards the western end) but I'm looking at upgrading to Prime this year.
There are seats close to the front of sections 61-64, but I'm concerned about the sun being at the eastern side of the ground, can anyone tell me if it's really brutal around there in the top tier?
In general do you think it's best to priortise being as close as possible to the front or to be close to the centre square? I realise it's all pretty subjective but would appreciate opinions as I've never sat in the top section.
Go Lions!

What time of day or night are most of our games on? We have just the 2 day/afternoon games don’t we?

I don’t think the sun is going to be a factor in most of our games.

It can be a problem from that side of the Gabba.
However in 2020 the first 8 of 11 home games are at night. Then 3.20pm, 2.10pm & round 23 time slot to be confirmed.

It it was me i would try as close to centre as possible but towards the front. So 64 front over 63 front etc.

You may want to check out some other Prime seats via this map.
For years i sat in Prime Sect 11 Row H seat 367/368. They were good seats. They were 8 rows up from the playing surface.
Those seat numbers are 4 seats in from Brisbane Cricket Ground section which is on the other side of the ground.
You do not want to be up against this barrier as view slightly restrictive/annoying. It's like a white pool fence which you can see in the map. So 4 seats in at least
I upgraded to Premium last year to sit with more relatives

The link below is a good interactive map of the Gabba.
Just click on the section you want. A small video appears. Open video to show the full screen.
You can pause it and move it up/down/sideways if you want. Unfortunately you can't click on to obtain a view from a particular seat.
But it is still a good tool for people that need to make a decision via phone/internet.
Good luck choosing suitable seats

That's true, we have a great fixture this year (Sunday arvos are my least favourite time slot) but was thinking long term. I hope to be watching my Lions for many seasons to come; rain, hail or shine :)

That interactive map is great, as you say would be better if you could choose individual seats but it does help. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't manage to find it myself after Googling last night geez, but anyway thanks for that.

My sister and I have been in the Standard for a few seasons now Sec 13, I really do like the atmosphere at ground level (plus my eyesight isn't great), but this season we just had a few negative experiences with crowd behaviour and we are getting a bit over it. I'm all for barracking loudly and we love a drink as much as anyone else, but just seemed to be so this season more than usual we had to put up with basically drunk guys (that show up obviously drunk before the game even starts) that would go over the top. In our section I would say we had only 1/4 members so a lot of opposition supporters which feels a bit weird when it's your home ground too.

Re the barrier yeah I could imagine that although it doesn't totally obstruct the view it might be annoying.

I see on the Lions webpage you can view what seats are available in each section (assuming they are accurate), it's interesting to see what's available, so I'll mull over that for a bit and go from there. I'm sure whatever we can get will be good. Really appreciate your reply cheers, pumped for 2020!

I'm in 69 in row AA and I love my seats generally, never have a problem with the sun and I quite like sitting around half-forward usually. Learning that my regular seats were considered restricted view when the finals came around was a bit of a shock though and I realise now, yeah they are the way you have to peer between the safety barrier but it's never really bothered me for the benefit of leaning over the fence and yelling.

Getting centre wing seats on the northern side of the ground was a great experience though as I could see both ends equally well and rarely had to look at the screen to see what was going on compared to my usual seats. That northern side is steeper tiered then on the southern wing though so even though my seats were half way up the second tier the view was amazing because it was still pretty close to the ground. Even though you get further away as you go up on the southern side, I still don't think there is a bad seat on centre wing in the elevated section even if you were in the back row but I can't say that for certain.

Been sitting eastern side of the ground for 20 years. Love it. No issues.

Your first post mentioned upgrading to Prime seating and also mentioned sections 61 to 64.
I just checked and those sections are actually Premium so did you notice the price when looking.
If not : Premium Adult $490 (or $49x10)- Concession $385 ($38x10) + other pricing
.......... Prime Adult $390 ($39x10) - Concession $290 ($29x10) + other pricing

Looks like after last years experience you would like a members only area that is unlicensed. After looking at Ticketmaster map, only one section has this combination. It is about one quarter of section 40 which is Prime on top level.

But their are members only sections
Some members only sections indicated are : Premium all of sections 43,67,68.
Not many unlicensed sections...................: Premium All section 5 and half of section 4. My membership is in section 5 and it is 95+% members.

Members only area in Prime is all of section 40 with the above mentioned one quarter of this section.

The below link is a Gabba map that indicates all types of membership and shows unlicensed sections but not members only sections. This is an old map but a quick check with Ticketmaster maps indicates it is up to date, except for where the Veranda Drinking area now is located.

My first lions membership was in your section 13. We hated that section and moved to Section 11 that i mentioned in my previous post. The difference was huge considering it was the same price. We noticed since the Veranda drinking area went in, section 11 is usually full with visiting team members.
Last year i moved again to section 5 to be with family.

Sorry I’m confusing myself now - I did mean upgrading to Premium, rather than Prime. Have now settled on Sec 63 as we were able to get pretty close to the front in that section, about 4/5 rows back. Looks like the Sec sits on the 50 metre arc, so not central but not behind the goals either. I think we will be happy there. I prioritized being closer to the front, as moving around the other sections would have been out of the sun, but seats would be higher up as unsurprisingly they are popular sections. Looking forward to seeing the game from a different perspective and being around more club members. Hopefully we have found our home now, but I guess we can always tweak it again next year if need be.

I have to say the membership team were good to deal with as well, really friendly and they sorted it out in one phone call.
We found our old ground level section good at first, but did notice a negative difference this season. Nothing terrible happened just seemed a lot of inebriated young guys liked to gob off towards us and we just started to get sick of it. As you mention the implementation of the Verandah means opposition supporters have shifted around from behind the goals too.

With all that being said we wouldn’t want to go to unlicensed – we do enjoy our overpriced vodka in the plastic cups :)
