Sure they do, that is why Adelaide had 10,000 more members than Essendon last year with nearly all of the states out of Victoria supporting their respective teams.

New South Wales- Sydney
Queensland- Brisbane
South Australia- Adelaide and Port Adelaide
Western Australia- West Coast and Fremantle

There is around 3 million population in Victoria in which at the most 500,000 are Essendon supporters, there are maybe another 1 million around the rest of the country, if my maths are correct 500,000 plus 1 million is 1.5 million, not 4.0 million. The bombers arent as popular as you think.

According to the Australian Bureau of statistics website there is currently 19,292,592 million people residing in Australia.
During the 12 months ended April 1999 2,509,200 of these people attended at least one AFL match. Given that you are referring to loyal supporters (a loyal supporter should be able to attend at least one match) then this is an accurate figure of the entire population in Australia interested in AFL football.

The Roy Morgan Research institute in a 1999 survey states that 13% of AFL supporters support Essendon or 326,000.

I'll even round it up to 400,000 you are still out by a factor of 10 on your 4 million estimate.

com'n sabre...defend the mighty bombers.

I know you have several pages on the topic (not written by you granted !!!!)

Clearly Essendon have more the 35 million supporters. They have formed a joint venture with CARE australia to provide support to those affected by the recent earthquake in India....on the proviso that they state "Essendon" when the local survey guy comes around asking which AFL team they follow.

Nothing else to do in Suck Australia.

And Essendons 35,000 last year membership competing against 10 other teams makes Adelaide's membership look sick doesn't it?

Yes but wouldn't the Crows have more members if Footy Park held more people. 40,000 members equals 40,000 seats and they don't have many more than that. If it were possible, they might have over 50,000 members.

I take it then walshy that you support the idea to reduce from ten the number of teams in Victoria? Perhaps relocate one to SA, a state where the footy support is obviously too concentrated.

No? You think instead perhaps that Victoria is the traditional heartland of footy? Perhaps, but its fairly clear its not such a heartland to justify the five-to-one imbalance of teams based there.

Or perhaps you think that five-to-on imbalance should be maintained? By all means think that if you will, but then don't moan about stronger support for sides located elsewhere at the same time. That would be inconsistent with yourself, and we are all sure you wouldn't want that!

This ones too good to miss

Both these teams play the majority of thir games at grounds with restrictions on numbers and extra costs eg reserved seats etc.

They will not boost their numbers unless they play the majority of their games at the MCG and make it cheaper.

But why would they ? Their supporters are dumb enough to pay more.
