Here is my notes dump from the Members Connect:
End of season reviews are essentially always immediately completed - they do weekly reviews in-season.
So they have a good handle on what they need to do as soon as the season ends.
VFL coach Wayne Cripps is now the Mids coach.
Ben Hart moving to Def.
The plan was to move up the draft if they had an opportunity in the trade period.
Will try to move ahead on draft night if possible. We have a clear player in mind to draft.
"Saints are a pretty average football club" McCartney referring to their handling of Aleer
Thrilled by developing mids, but needed some experienced quality brought in.
Feels that midfield depth is the difference between good sides and true contenders.
Caruso says Kingers is the one who asks for certain players and traits. But happy with any of 8 or 9 draft options.
Caruso is not data driven, he looks more wholistically at athletic/running ability, skills, work ethic, competitiveness.
They have clear "Giants type" - needs to be more than just a good footballer.
For example - Says Idun and Angove were both lowly rated by other clubs but rated highly by them on their criteria.
Doesn't care what the media pundits rate our potential picks or our 'needs'.
They always seem to rate their potential picks differently to most other clubs.
They wouldn't have touched many of the early picks other clubs select ahead of GWS picks.
Wanted to draft a mid but now may have to rethink because of Oliver.
Still more interviews and decisions to make.
Looking at personality, character and if a fit for the club.
Impact of the 5 on bench is unknown. The rotations become more interesting and may take some trial and error to work out the best balance on field.
Some praise for Keeffe and what he provided.
Bullish on Madden and Logan Smith, Gothard, Leake.
Expects younger players to overtake current players by year 3-5 of being drafted.
Green and Oliver could rest forward more often with this flexibility. Expects it will take a few games to work out the best balance in the midfield.
Chook played through knowing he needed surgery. He lost almost all his speed and power.
Nick Poulos left due to a family situation. Replacement Jackson Dennis floated around Freo for 12 years and highly rated but hadn't secured a head role. So he gets an opportunity and will be mentored by Nick Poulos for 12 months.
