Brittain would have been ok - would have been happy with Wayne.

I think the big problem for me is that it is going to take a cricket season to know if Laidley can coach match day.

His first test will be the delistings.

2nd will be trading and what we get for wayne

Match day tactics are important, but the biggest test for a new coach is his willingness to make hard decisions, and his approach to the players under his control.

Coaches have to have great people skills. You are directly responsible for the careers of 38 footballers, and each has very different personalities, abilities, attitudes etc.

Match day coaching ability can be learnt. Ability to manage such a group cannot.

With on the cricket season though. Farkin annoying really.

Does any one know how long he has been appointed for ?

3 years ?

I really hope it is no longer and would prefer 2. We could not afford a huge pay out if things don't work out and we can always re-sign him (as in re-appoint) if things are going well

I thought the same.

But...If he has a clear plan, and both the admin and he agree the progression of the list will take 3 years, then simmilar to Malthouse, he should be given the time to do what he is being paid to do.

I want footy right now.

Be positive guys, this is a great day for our club. Laidley will be good for us, he has a strong aura of leadership about him and i think the players will love playing for him.

Agree. I was all for Hamilton/Brittain/O'Donnell/Craig depending on what day it was.

But I do know for a fact (which I know is hard to believe on an anonymous bulletin board) that the Bulldogs were also extremely impressed with Laidley.

So the NMFC supporters should be extremely happy that we have had an opportuinity to appoint Laidley.

Finally, the one thing that I believe that is important as a coach is to have the courage of their convictions as then everyone knows where they are heading. I believe that Laidley has a plan and that he will follow it through.

I haven't felt such excitement since, since... I can't remember ...

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :D :D :p :p

He said he has signed for 3 years.

Was unsure at first whether Laidley would be the way to go - I wanted an experienced coach (Brittain or Eade) but I'm warming up to Laidley. Reading today's HerSun it's got a small story on his stint as senior coach of an ACT club - he took them from last to a Prelim in 99 and since he's left they've only won one game in 3 years!

Let's hope he can work the same magic for us!

1 year tashi so if that form is transferred to North then book your tickets for next years prelim final now. Anyhow you were his biggest fan you should know his life history?
