Menegola upgraded.

I honestly don't understand. Why would you want two taggers against St Kilda? Secondly Ballard has been the far better player at WAFL level and looks to be a better prospect. IMO he deserved the reward of an upgrade more.

It would be much better to get more games into Crozier and Sheridan than Menegola.

From what other posters are saying Ballard might be Crowleys replacement when crowleys career is over. I havent seen ballard play, so you would have a better opinion than I do. Freo wont delist too many guys at the end of the season. If Ballard is as good as you think, he will proabably get promoted next season. I was thinking this was Menegolas last chance to show what he can do.

This saints game will be the last chance that Ross can try a kid out with out risk losing a game. Yes we have the lions at the gabba before the last game of the minor round but Ross Lyon wont take too many risks.

Tabs and the Ape got games this season to see what they would do in the forward line. Freo were stripped bare when Johnson and McPharlin was out injured. I would of liked Tanner Smith and Alex Pearce play but both those young blokes were injured at the time too.

Carlton after the bye too.

Carlton after the bye too.

I wouldnt underestimate the blues, they might be a wounded animal but they will put up a fight, in the 1st half that is if the Swans vs Blues game last round is anything to go by.

Its weird because Freo have then head to geelong then Hawks at home next then a struggling Brisbane side then a tough Port side at home.

Ballard is even stronger than Michie (who is very strong) and he stands up in tackles exceptionally, but he is definitely in the bottom third for endurance at the club. It was very noticeable in both preseason training (where he basically just ran laps to improve endurance and when he did join in running drills he was running with the talls group)and in his early games that Ballard needs to improve his endurance. There is a difference between beep testing and a players ability to repeat run on a footy field and run 200m, stop and run again after a short break. Ballard has improve his fitness since the start of the season, but if he wants to play a run with role at afl level he still has a very long way to go in the endurance stakes.

So between Ballard and Brady what diff roles?

A bit puzzling to me, I would have thought DeBoer would be a much better option for the Crowley replacement. Menegola I would view as a tagger and nothing else at AFL level. I have honestly never noticed him for Peel. Crowley can play forward and mid in a pinch, DeBoer ditto. I would much prefer that versatility rather than a Clint Jones tagger only.

Always good to have pure shutdown player with run if he gets his kicking right can be a take the ball out of back line player with hill becoming free to deliver majestically into forward half

Mark my words, when Ballard gets a bigger tank, he is going to be a weapon of a midfielder. Really ****ing solid unit, big guy, think McPhee playing midfield, but with less jitters and a considerably better tan.

Anyway, yeah Menegola hey. Can run.

Didn't we upgrade him due to Brady grey being put in the long term injury list?
Not permanently!

Rookie upgrades mid-season aren't a reflection of their current list standing, however an avenue to ensure a club has a full senior list to pick from for the duration of the H&A season. Once the season ends Brady is still obviously a senior list member. Rookie listed players aren't eligible for senior selection in the H&A season unless there is a LTI (Brady in this instance), so Menegola received a (temporary) elevation.

Yes we did, however that expires as soon as Gray is back. So even if he's upgraded during a season he's not a part of a senior list, he's still officially a rookie

Strange move to upgrade and not play him

The only reason I can think of is that Crowley may have been iffy for this game, ie carry a niggle or whatever
EDIT: the way he performed it wouldn't surprise me that he was borderline match fit at best
