Were they actually some of the best? They haven't exactly covered themselves in glory here
Well they all worked with sides that won premierships or finished top 4 . The problems we have had are not due to s**t assistant coaches. More to do with not putting enough time into development , average recruiting and Essendon being Essington.

From memory Caracella and Tapping were both highly regarded and sought after as well.

For all the flaws at EFC, under-spending on assistant coaches doesn’t appear to be one of them any more.

Supposedly half the reason we had truck as senior coach was because we wanted Cara and Cara didn't want to be senior coach...

Cows follow the lead cow to the milking shed every day.
Sheep follow the first one to move no matter the direction that first one takes.
You don't need a good cattle dog to control cows, you need good cattle dogs to control sheep.
Essendon [ as in we ] Have had good cattle dogs but they are dealing with sheep dogs.
But The Master has invested in the top dog so the little trainee dogs become fertilizer.
🤯

No one rates Drummond?
Campaign is finished. Why shouldn't we approach him?

"Drummond joined former teammate Brad Scott at North Melbourne where he coached for six seasons in a variety of roles. He initially joined as a development coach before moving into Assistant Coach positions, overseeing both the defensive and midfield groups."

Josh Drummond inducted into Queensland Football Hall of Fame

Barlow off to North.

Asleep at the wheel

Great signing for North. Surely we are looking at Drummond and he can bring a few of the Gold Coast boys with him (Miller, King, Anderson, Flanders, Ainsworth, Lukosius, Rowell, Humphrey, Powell, Hollands, Andrew, Rosas even Oea and Uhwland would all look good in the red and black).

Reminder: The default position is not that everyone wants to come to work or play at EFC.

An approach would be nice, a beg, a grovel, a phone call. An olive branch, anything.

I guess technically you can’t get turned down if you don’t actually make an approach though.

Coach under Clarkson, one of the greatest coaches in AFL history, or Brad Scott. Geez. Tough.

Also this:

You don’t know if essendon offered him a position

North’s previous head of strength and conditioning Jona Segal is expected to come over and work with Scott in a part time capacity.

Left North in 2021.

Didn’t he get moved on at the end of 2021 after they had couple of really bad years of soft tissue injuries

Wonder if this means he wants to be a head coach after all.
And who takes over as senior assistant alongside Gia?
My read is that he's been pushed out

Why would you want to be a vfl coach when you've been a 2IC afl coach for a long time. Unless thats what he wants as a step into retirement, ala Gary Ayres, but thats not a stepping stone to getting a gig as a senior coach at AFL level.

I had the same thought but it’s been sold nicely. See what happens, might follow skip to Collingwood next, head up their academy

Don’t think he’s been pushed out at all. Rather they wanted someone better to be coaching the vfl program.

It could be, or just general re-jig, but also the industry has been moving to a preference for hiring coaches that have had their own team.

You don't undermine your afl program to promote your vfl program.

Either Cara wants to step into a career at vfl or Scott believes he can improve the afl coaching group.

How are you undermining the afl program? Having a really good vfl coach is essential for the program/ list / talent to grow and move forward. Cara will still be involved full time preseason and training. A lot of coaches are going back and coaching vfl for a year or 2 to add to their credentials
