If it means keeping Caddy you sack Bred immediately imo
This is all too sensible...I don’t think Brad is a great coach, but he has shown competence in the past. Which is more then can be said of this playing group.
This year is meant to be rock bottom in many ways. At the very least I’d want to see what things look like with him at the helm next season before making a call.
Yr 2 of Farrow, Sharp, Robey.
Yr2 of Inness
Another 10 players cycled through
A top 5 pick and The return of Nick Martin.

i reckon thats the way it plays out, been mentioned a few times over the years but the rebuild coach rarely is the guy thats there when teams have success.Imagine all of that plus a new coach who we selected after an extensive process, instead of the same messaging.
After watching last weeks game, the most disappointing aspect for me was the lack of belief. They looked defeated before they ran onto the ground. It showed how they played in the first quarter. This should be responsibility of the coach and experienced players.....Leadership.Melbourne and Hawthorn are both sides coming off Premierships. It is not the same comparison. How many premiership leaders do we have running around?
It is not about teaching defence. It is about gradually removing the players who do not get it, which we have not done in the past and it is also about bringing in new leaders and continuing to draft the same competitive types.
I have no issue if they decide to change the coach at the end of the year, but the issues go way beyond the coach.
Are the board going to hire the bloke that comes in and says well you really need another 3 or 4 years of rebuild? I doubt it very much, but the reality is we more than likely do.
Four years is not a lot of time to rebuild a club that has been underperforming for years with a soft culture and poor leadership. Much quicker timeline for the likes of Melbourne or the Hawks who have won a premiership before the build. Ditto Pies who played in a GF.
Right now, we have gone backwards in defence because we are playing 10 or so guys with under 40 games. Any club who has done it has had similar results. Even the Dogs have hit a very up and down form line now they have some injuries and have to rely on a younger side.
If the leadership is poor as far as the experienced players go then where does the coach go with that ?After watching last weeks game, the most disappointing aspect for me was the lack of belief. Too often it has been the older experienced players that have let the team down. How can the younger players learn from this. Then same experienced players are left in the side while the younger players are dropped for the same mistakes.
Eddie Betts said in his pre game that he was worried judging on the body language of the Essendon players out on the ground before the game, who is that on?If the leadership is poor as far as the experienced players go then where does the coach go with that ?
Our leadership level has been a hobby horse of mine for years. It has been poor.
We have had average captains backed up by a coffee club leadership group. The depth is horrendous and it is a massive reason why we are so bad.
Our on field leadership was a bit suspect before the saga and it went down the toilet after as we where all about hugs and cuddles because of what the players went through and it has not recovered.
You can lay it at the feet of the coach. He has to get them up, but it is still just as much about the leadership on the field. Would you say the young blokes failed to get up for the game? Blame the coach as much as you want. He has to sell the message and there are times when it looks like there is no message however the bus needs drivers. Otherwise, it sits in the depot.Eddie Betts said in his pre game that he was worried judging on the body language of the Essendon players out on the ground before the game, who is that on?
I would just like to see somebody putting effort into Leadership. Leadership usually starts from the top and flows down. You can lay it at the feet of the coach. Let's face it the Lions labelled two of our leaders selfish. Langford. Merrett.
McGrath tries to get stuff happening but steps beyond his ability in the desperation to do so.
McKay has basically lost pretty much everything in his own game so leading is not really part of it.
Wright is generally all over the place form wise and is not an inspirational leader.
Redman is not playing but when he does his leadership is patchy.
Caldwell has been struggling for form.
These are our leaders.
Are you saying another coach can do more with this lot other than maybe win 5 or so more games and get us to 11th on the ladder?
You would have to say there are games where Scott has had an issue getting the players up, but it is generally the leaders who end up disappointing.
I still think Saturday was better than Anzac Day. There was actually effort. We got done more from our own mistakes. Skill level. Young blokes learning against a dual premiership side. A few senior players making their usual mistakes.
I have done the research on this. There is no side in the competition that regularly fields 10 players with under 50 games experience and in those 10 players half having less than 10 games experience that show any consistent form at all.
We are running out with only 5 players on more than 150 games. Mcgrath. Langford. Merrett. Gresham. Wright. there is a big chance that 3 of these guys will be on the list leading into 2027. So basically, those who are supposed to be our guiding hands are poor quality as far as leadership goes.
I do not see Scott going past 2027. In fact, I think Lloyd is correct in saying it could be a very 50/50 thing if he makes it past this year. Maybe a fresh coaching staff can move the needle a bit, but we will not progress past being a side that has a ceiling of 8th spot until we have a changeover in the on-field leaders.
Leaders are also born and not made.I would just like to see somebody putting effort into Leadership. Leadership usually starts from the top and flows down.
I agree with what your saying about on field. Duzz did try on Saturday.

FYI, I wasn't laying blame on anyone, just wanted your thoughts on the matter. You can lay it at the feet of the coach. Best thing I heard recently is that Sharp, Robey and Farrow are living together.Leaders are also born and not made.![]()
I’m not sure what Brads strengths are as a coach.
I don't think it's that black and white. I'd say we've seen improvement from Clarke, Roberts, Durham, El Hawli, Nguyen, Merrett and Tsatas. He can develop players, but I take your point re developing defensively.Look, it’s great he’s finally playing the kids, but my concern is what is he teaching them?
Look at how quickly King has changed Melbourne, and Mitchell Hawthorn.
If Mitchell had been coaching us (him being a crap person aside) do we not think we’d be a different team?
Brads been here 4 years and he clearly can’t teach defence - i don’t see how it’ll magically get better in the future.
They’ll probably keep him because of his contract, but there’s no point bringing in talented kids if you have a bloke that can’t develop them.
Personally I’d prefer we give someone else a shot - there’s a chance we can get a good coach, or we can keep Brad and guarantee we have a crap one.
No current season stats available
Wouldnt matter who was coaching us right now
Redman
Ridley
Martin
Bryan
Kako
And a completely disinterested Zerrett makes it impossible for such an inexperienced group
How can we keep blaming the coach
Knights
Worsforld
Rutten

They played well for 2 games when they stacked the forward line with the best players and took McGrath out of defence….
Then undid that for reasons unknown.
