The $6.50 makes no mention of the salad bar, if it did that's completely understandable, but it just comes across as a penalty charge

Simlar to this surcharge what are peoples thoughts on corkage??

I got back into the city after a day at country footy and took a bottle of wine to a latish dinner with 3 other friends. It was an Indian meal, we had a $35 banquet each and 2 of us had a bottle of wine as was just a nice quiet dinner. Got the bill and corkage was $6.50 per person. Is that excessive?? Meal was $140 then plus corkage $26..... what hurt most was my bottle was about 20 bucks worth to begin with and I think I even opened it myself while we waited. What is a fair price for corkage at a place that offers BYO I ask?

The actual cost imposition of BYO is minimal.
