Beat me to it CE.

"Geelong forward Dan Menzel has agreed to a contract extension with the Cats.

Menzel, who has battled back from four knee reconstructions since 2011, played 18 games in an incredible comeback season, registering a career best 33 goals.

Menzel believes he will improve on his fine 2016 campaign with another strong pre-season lead in.

“The club always stood by me and so the challenge and focus for me was always getting through a full season,” Menzel said."

Great for him, great for us.

Sounds like a 1 yr deal -which is fine - keeps everyone in the game.

I can't see him leaving at any point, but why only a 1 year extension til the end of 2017?

I suppose the 4 previous knee reconstructions may have something to do with it.

As precaution with his knee's I guess....Better to take it year by year at this point of time incase something goes wrong again...God forbid that happening again.

I thought that (but didn't want to be the negative Nancy who wrote it!) but does that mean it'll be 1 year extensions for the rest of his career? Surely it gets to a point where they (Dan and the club) start trusting his body a bit more?

I'm hoping it's more the salary cap changes then anything else.

Because he's still a huge injury risk.
He will be a risk for the rest of his career. Does that mean we never sign him up for a multiple year contract again? Other teams will bring the offers if he plays out next season. Why can't we put in a multiple year contract with a trigger clause for the second and third years if he plays a certain amount of games next year (which thus means he probably aint injured)?

Phew. At first glance I read the title without the hyphen...

Great news for Dan and us, with the impending loss of both kersten and vardy we need Dan now more then ever.

Maybe he only wanted a one year deal.

Or, maybe the case that a trigger clause is written in but they haven't reported it. How many were aware of the trigger clause in Bartel's contract prior to it being discussed in the media around the time of his 300th. At h.

Or they will look at that next year but want to see how his body pulls up after a full season, a break, preseason and another season. He was sore by the end of this year, so they may want to make sure that it's not a case of his knees being fine, but through compensation he is hurting or doing some other damage to his body.

I wasn't anywhere near an internet for the Cats v Swans final (thank f*ck!) but I knew Menzel pulled out beforehand. What exactly went wrong? Was it a gamble to 'rest' him before a supposed Grand Final berth? Was his knee giving him genuine grief?

What was up with him?
Groin injury from memory.

Well he will be a free agent next year.
