I said to my son who was asking me about Menz and was to young to remember when he last played, that I hoped he got 20 and 2.
Well this special talent bested my predictions with 20 and 4, and a speccy!
Well done Menz and I sincerely hope this is the restart of a long and amazing career at the Cattery.
Same here. My son didn't know who Menzel was up until a few weeks ago when I'd been telling him about Menzel's impending return. I told him that this guy "broke" his knee four times and had been out for as many years. This morning my son was still upset about the loss, but out of the blue said: "That guy was so good at footy that if he breaks his knee and can't play again it will break lots of people's hearts, too".

Waking up this morning I still can't get over how good he looked last night.

He looked like a 100 game player who had missed a week with a rolled ankle, not a 20 something gamer who had missed 4 years with multiple knees

Simply remarkable
Mate, if you fast-forwarded four years from that Collingwood game in 2011, obviously never knowing what transpired for Menz, you'd have watched that game and honestly thought that he has developed nicely into the player he could have been. In fact, you'd be stoked to think that he'd been playing footy like that for the past four years. You'd have NEVER thought that ANY player, no matter how talented/courageous/mentally strong, could have performed so, so well, in a STRUGGLING side I might add, after having played zero, that's right... ZERO games of AFL footall in almost four years. It's just truly remarkable.

what a great story, congratulations to Daniel Menzel!

Respect to the GFC and supporters for sticking with the young fella, I'm sure there were many periods of time when everyone was thinking that a promising career was going to be cut short by a knee injury.

Keep it civil in here please. All opposition posters are welcome and are coming here to offer nothing but good things to Menz. Just accept the platitudes with class posters.

This is the one thread that should need no moderation.

I get what you are suggesting but there is absolutely zero % chance that Menz would look at other clubs offers after being on the GFC list for the last 4 years.

I know its a business but the club has bent over backwards to get him right, and he has busted his arse, and there is a connection there that wont be broken by money and other clubs interest. Not this bloke.

Yep I'm not overly worried as it sounds like he has very strong morals and loves the club. But Injury aside. He could command 600,000 easily with lots of upside on top. If we offered 200,000 and some club went crazy and offered 500,000 a year more without considering his injury past than well .....

More referring to the selfishness.
Um ok. I love his selfishness. He tries to win games and takes responsibility for kicking the clutch goals. Where others hesitate and try to pass off responsibility to others. Cough 2011 grand final last quarter. Menzel did the same last night when he had open players. Hope he follows in Sj's steps.

Although I agree you must remember SJ is also the all time goal assist player.

Don't misunderstand, SJ is a brilliant player. But he does have a bit of a selfish streak in him

That's my point. Menzel seems ot have even more raw natural talent than SJ. But if he can be a really selfless footballer to boot, he'd be amazing.

I just love your little boy, Strangled! :hearts:

Someone posted a tweet re Menzel's Mum saying that, if his knee went again, he'd go through it all again. What a bloke!
