2nd part wasn't quite as impressive.

I feel like the whole thing was only considered pretty recently and they probably didn't actually have enough footage for 2 x 30min episodes.

It may've only been considered recently, but who cares ?
I gather he recorded a lot of stuff on his phone like a video diary to look back on in the future,so why not make a doco out of it.

Anyway, glad they did something though. USA sport is amazing at making these types of short feature films. Check out ESPN 30 for 30 Detroit Bad Boys if you are bored. It's about the Detroit Pistons who won back to back championships sandwiched between Magic Johnson's Lakers dynasty and Michael Jordan's Bulls dynasty in the 90's.

There's a pretty good one on Duke supervillain Christian Laettner too which was an enjoyable watch .. agree the Bad Boys ep was excellent.

Thought part 2 was just as good, pretty inspirational stuff.

Also disagree with Lyon saying he should have the week off. Why bother? Play him as much as the physios feel is appropriate and try to ready him for a pre-season.

I reckon Lyon should have a week off and give us all a spell from his dribble :p

I'm so happy that Menzel has made it back, and with such a stunning return game. But I think I'll always be a bit of a nervous Nellie about him, not only worrying about how his ACLs will hold up, but his knees in general.

For instance, I was quite concerned to read that he still has a lot of knee pain after every game, due to residual tendinitis. In the Cats article, they say this about his knee:

"The truth is he still experiences soreness every time he trains and it will take until Tuesday or Wednesday, at least, before the knee stops screaming at him this week, the pain a reminder no amount of belief can erase."

So I hope that he does have a proper break over the off-season and that his knees settle down more, because we want another 200-plus games from Dan, which might be hard to achieve if he's still playing with so much pain.
There is no chance of 200 games
will be lucky to get 100 more games

Watching it last night, oh boy! Mostly I just wanted to give him a hug haha

That hour of doco was just an onslaught of emotions, it's amazing that he wanted to show it to the public. I think that's why he's in such a good place right now, letting go and opening up about what's going on in his head. It's a lesson for everyone I think.

He first mentioned publicly he was making a doco about 18 months ago.

He will play through huge amounts of pain for the rest of his career. Nothing will be able to change that, even if everything goes perfectly from now on it will all come down to how long he can play through it

Menz also said he is ooc but that he is going no where and his manager it talking to the club.

Also, the sub was not injury related in any way.

Bluey on K-Rock today repeated what Garry Lyon said on FC that he should not have played today.

And Menzel himself said he wanted to play because he hadn't experienced an AFL win in 4 years, and he was sick of seeing his teammates retire without him being on the field next to them.

Getting through another game will give him even more confidence that he is ready to begin the next chapter of His afl career

Last year after the last game, the players went to the crowd to say thanks for the year, and Menz and Vardy were the players who came closest to my seat. They were dressed in suits. I thought it was nice to see their faces again.

Today, it was really nice to see them thanking the crowd, while wearing their hoops, the same uniform as their teammates. Menz gave us a thumbs up with this great expression on his face. Methinks every act/moment will be precious to him.
