Mercuri cost his side a premiership in 99'.

what a typically ludicrous statement from yourself

He missed a goal, it happens. I'm betting he wasn't the only Essendon player to miss a goal that day. Saying he "cost his side a premiership" is hyperbolic garbage

This, Dean Wallis' miscue was FAR, FAR worse, and even then I don't hold anything against him as we never should have put ourselves in that situation anyway.

The truth hurts.

He had little pressure & a clear shot at goal. Class players nail those shots. Didak does & has on a regular basis in such finals.

I'm not sure most Bomber fans realize how poor Mercuri was in his last 60 games. He was quite laughable.

Great poll and they are hard to split

At the end of the day if I cuuld pick one of the two to play for me I would go Mercuri so he gets my nod

Love Didak and he loses nothing in reputation by just being pipped here

he should have kicked that goal, no doubt.

didak squibs contests on a regular basis. class players dont do that.

most fans know how bad mercuri was in is last few seasons, most fans also have an understanding of the exceptional circumstances which may have attributed to that. thats why we never felt the need to address or realize how laughable is form was.

Essendon fans, is there a decent highlights video for Mercuri on YouTube? I'm not turning up anything.

What did you think of Clokes efforts in the drawn GF? Mercuris kick could've bounced either way that day, got the wrong one unfortunately. No Essendon fan would doubt his contribution that year, unlucky not to win a Brownlow & stood up in a year that we missed Hird, Lucas & J Johnson through injury.

Didn't watch enough Essendon games during Mercuri's prime to have a say on this poll, but I will pull you up on this.

In his two AA seasons 2006/2010, Didak was 1st and 3rd respectively in the AFL in goal assists. You're more than welcome to question his hardness, his defensive side etc...but he's superb at setting up goals.

Didak does set up plenty of goals, no doubt about it but he does tend to blaze away at times & maybe if he had a top notch KPF to kick to he would be less inclined to go for the miracle goals. Cloke & Rocca have both been able to take good marks over the years but their conversion rates have been pretty poor, esspecially Clokes. It's a pity goal assist stats weren't kept until the last 7-8 years because Mercuri would've owned this stat from 93-2000. In 99 he would've created a record that no-one would've got near since.

Didak blazes away? The guy kicks 64% for goal over his career. If you can find me a mid/hff who kicks better than that I'll be very impressed (for comparison, Mercuri's @ 60.5%, Lloyd @ 68.5%).

He goes for miracle goals, sure, but only when there's no better option, and in any case he kicks more of these "miracle" goals than he misses.

Mercuri had the benefit of playing in an overall better team over his career.

Didak has almost always been the first player targetted and sat on.

Didak......Just. :)

have a go at ess v syd 1999 final. Pure domination.

Only played the first quarter & maybe 10mins into the second. Did his groin & was clearly still restricted PF day. Thought it would be a long time before i'd see a quarter as good as Mercuris that day, only had to wait 2 weeks unfortunately to see Kouta tear it up.

A Steve Johnson wannabe with no heart. .

Are you inferring that Didak is trying to emulate Stevie J by being taken to the cleaners by Harry on a regular basis? Or is his diving skills aren't quite up to scratch as Stevie J Louganis? Or maybe he hopes to master the embankment at the back of the Lorne Pub?

Nah the SJ that has twice as many Premiership medallions and learned his driving exploits from Alan (with an honorable mention to Heath Shaw). SJ didn't bother lying about it though. Has some integrity. Thankfully he didn't copy Didak and conspire with Hell's Angels members to gun down innocent people. Fires his shots on the field Steve does.

you must be trollin'

you cant put mercuri's name in the same sentence as didaks
