we don't need a small defender, we've got Slatts, what we need is a young & a back-up ruckman, young tall back and 2-4 mids

yes we have Slats, what happens if he gets injured, hm, :(, not sure, just thought we could use another small defender, I do agree we need a tall back and a young ruck, and the 4 or so mids.

What else do the bombers need, a young ruckmen, yes, another tall defender, a small defender, agree, what else, another midfielder or two.

Heres my take on it...

Round 1: Defender/Midfield (Hurley/Harlett - Whoevers available)
Round 2: Small Midfielder (Presuming we take Hurley First)
Round 3: Tall Defender (HB)
Round 4: Wingman/Mid-sized Forward

PSD: Ben Cousins :D

Rookie: Ruckman
Rookie: Grant Weeks:confused: (jokes)
Rookie: Robin Nahas? (Could be valuable for Bendigo)

If he gets injured, bring Jazza Atkinson in.

I would of thought young Steven Stroobants from Bendigo looks the goods, everytime i see him play, he impresses me, as for Nahas, someone will nab him before us i think.

We should Rookie a Ruckman...

Hille
Laycock
Bellchambers

3 Ruckman is enough for the main list... we dont need 4... As for rookieing one, it's a good insurance policy incase of injuries as we see now. Then theres the fact that the pending ruckman could turn into an Aaron Sandilands coming off the rookie list.

No, that leaves a lot to chance.

What if Hille goes down pre-season? We're left with Laycock, Bellchambers and a 1st year ruckman for an entire season.

We need a mature ruckman and a rookie ruckman this year.

Seen him play for the cannons 4-5 times in 07, and not much else. Only making assumptions from limited time, when I watched him he seemed a bit out of depth down back with the exception of 3-4 contested marks, and alot better when he utilized his leap more in ruck.

Bullsh**. He played back for the Cannons and defeated McEvoy twice (Top Ten) Kruezer (Number 1) Matthew Lobbe (First Round) and Tyrone Vickery (Both bottom age in 2007)
I dont want to call you a liar but can you please list for me the 4-5 games you saw? Seeing he played for PEGS for a majority of the season and rarely played for Calder I cant see how you could possibly have made those conclusions if you really saw him play. I watch a lot of Calder, Western and Northern and will tell you I cant recall seeing Trengove look out of his depth. He finished 3rd in their B&F playing a very limited amount of games.
I rate Hurley barely in front of Trengove and think Jackson has much more upside. Please watch him jump all over Kruezer,Dawson Simpson twice, Andrew Browne twice, Lobbe and Scott Simpson in the last 5 matches of 2007. What color hair does Trengove have mate? Maybe your slightly confused.

foj i'm just interested in your opinion on who we should take with a first pick and later on in the draft?
I'm just asking because i know how knowledgeable you are with these kids and that you've seen them play quite a bit

Trengove is blonde, #24, thin with a big leap. The first 2 times I saw him (vs. Eastern Rangers and Sandringham), I was unaware who he was, and didn't grab my attention. When I saw him play against the Jets, and the Falcons he played prodominately in the ruck and played very well. I can't remember how he played against the Bushrangers though.

2nd round

Schoenmakers- Flexible tall about 191cm who reads the play well and can play back or forward.

3rd Round

Suban

I think he can be moulded into a lock down small defender to take small defenders.

4th

Redden/Lisle as ruckman.

5th or 6th round

Could be anyone.

I would definitely take Swift if he slips down to the second round.

3rd Round

Suban - Most likely will be gone

I think he can be moulded into a lock down small defender to take small defenders.

4th

Redden/Lisle as ruckman. - Lisle will definitely be gone and isn't a ruckman

Any footage of Swift?

I have seen some footage of Swift from 2007 but I can't remember the source.

I understand that he is rated just behind Rich but has been limited by injuries in the last 2 years.

Possibly one of the WA guys has footage.

Wouldn't surprise me if Geelong took a punt on him with their first pick.
I think the opposite, only pick in the top 20 and the last pure draft for a few years (age requirements change & the GC/WS teams) It would be the worst time to gamble with a kid who has done one knee & then the next year have a Selwood style cartilage problem in the other knee. They would have seen him play 3 or 4 games since the U16's, very high risk (much more likely to go to a teams 2nd pick early in the second round if he is still rated highly)

I think they will pick up a versatile tall or an inside midfielder from Vic Country or maybe country WA, low risk & moderate return, very much in line with their recruitment policy & the team culture that has worked for them.

Dont think we would go after Ryan Schoenmakers, we have enough tall key forwards coming through, Neagle, Daniher, Gumbleton, we also still have Lloyd and Lucas for a couple more years aswell, and also Monfries playing as a high forward alongside Adam Mcphee, so their is 7 players as forwards, don't think we'd go for another tall forward.

Suban would be an absolute steal in the third round.

Nick Suban will not be available in the third round, he is a top 20 pick, 25-28 at the latest. SO you may have to rethink.

I like Jarred Redden from SA as a developing ruckmen, seems to be very versatile and mobile, Lisle will almost be a first round pick IMO, if not, early second.

Just a question on Suban.
Can he be played as a small defender or is he more of a half back/ inside midfielder?

IMO, he is more of a running half back, a little bit like, um, a brad scott (i think??) tough hard as nails running back flanker, he can play that lockdown back pocket role well, but is better suited to the hbf role.
