There is no way you can know if anyone is being honest or not.

The only ones you can believe are the ones who have proved themselves in the past.

oh, and bee dee of course :p
Yeah, that was the whole reason why I was asking as to how he was so sure. If it was bee dee, then thats a whole new story!:D

Re: Adrian Dodoro - Talks about the draft

List manager, Adrian Dodoro, predicts the upcoming trade period will be one of the more active ones in years when he appears on the Finals Show this week with former Premiership star Paul Barnard.

“It’s starting to hot up and clubs are starting to talk,” Dodoro said.
“There are seven to eight ruckman who will get picked up in the national draft this year I think - it is a very good tall draft but there isn’t as much depth in midfielders as there has been in previous years.

“Our thoughts at the moment are simply to do our homework and we have the trade period and draft camp coming up and then we have a month to analyze the information. Pick 5 is a terrific pick and it depends on what the clubs do in front of us on what sort of player we will take.

Are people reading too much into these comments? Posters are suggesting that his comments indicate we are taking a mid:confused: I do not read it this way at all. He is merely stating that there are not as many midfielders in the draft.

We are not sold on anyone that is a fact.
No clubs no who they are taking at pick 5 this early on.

However I can break some news, and take this for what its worth. I speak regularly with Hamish Hartlett and he would be keen to come to Essendon however we are yet to have an inteview with him despite him having a few with Fremantle, Port Adelaide and other numourous clubs including Collingwood. I have mates at Michael Hurleys school and heard we have spoke to him a few times, but I'm not to sure about that so I will try find out more soon, I assume we have spoke to many Melbourne based players so I dunno if that means much.

"The Cotch" is also a mate of mine and he has spoke to someone who apparently knows about but then again I severely doubt we are a lock in for Hurley and my mates just taking his sources word for what it is.

I think Ziebell is also a massive shot for Pick 5, love the way he goes about his football.

If we go tall with our first pick then how about Rhys O'Keefe in the second round? His name hasn't been mentioned in here and he's a good size with great foot skills.
Plays of half back and can run through the middle. One worth considering?

Worth considering in the second round definitely. A hard running HBF who has superb foot skills and is a handy overhead grab as well. Maybe pace is a bit of an issue, but if he doesn't get injury riddled then he should add class to his new team as he is a natural, hard running footballer. Handy size as well as you mentioned, in that middle range.

58% are in favour with going Hartlett with our first pick and 42% of voters are leaning towards Ziebell. Not a huge difference, but there is quite a gap Ziebell might need to bridge before leading the poll.
So Hartlett is our man people?

Here's a few pics for avatars or the like, maybe a bit of editing needed though.

Is anyone else concerned about the question mark over his pace? (Looking forward to draft camp).
Nope. He's by no means gonna be a player who will burn you with his speed (Lovett), but neither will he lumbre (Mal Michael). Think someone like Mcveigh, pace is not something he brags about, but at the same time it is not a problem.

I don't really understand how they can be set on him 2 months out. I'm sure even Melbourne can't decide who they're going for.

Even Dodoro said they still have no idea and will only start to formulate the direction they go after the trade week is finished.

I wouldn't have any particular issue with his pace as such, but as Ant pointed out to me you need to be concerned with the pace of your list and best 22 overall.

True footballers can make up for their lack of athletic qualities in many more ways but you can't carry too many without pace these days.

From the little i have seen of him he looks like an absolute class act with many qualities that would enable him to play a variety of roles and for mine looks a better bet than Hartlett who appears to be more of a specialised mid, although this judgment is off limited viewing of them both.

I think it will end up a moot point anyway as i believe we will pick up a KPD.

One point that I would like to mention in the KPD v Midfielder debate:

If Essendon pass on Hurley, Carlton would most likely snap him up and in the process will be addressing one of their glaring weaknesses - Hurley, Jamison and Bower looks quite promising. The thought is scares me.

Hurley is what we need, Ziebell is what we need too (just not as much)

I agree If we pass on Hurley and he turns out to be very good not only do we miss the chance to strengthen our backline, we also hand a premiership to our biggest rivals.

No key defender drafted this year is going to be ready in his first year. It usually takes at least 4 years for them to be AFL conditioned.

Think Glass, Rutten, Barry, Hudgston - even Scarlett took his time and whilst Fletcher was thrown in at the deep end as a teenager he didn't really start to flourish until he was 23 and beyond.

Those thinking that Hurley will add something instantly are living in Dreamsville.

Wouldn't be good, but by no means do you draft on what other teams might need so they don't do well.

And what if we pass on Ziebell and he turns out to be as good as Voss, or Hartlett turns out to be as good as Simon Black? We would being handing a premiership to our biggest rival.

Seriously, we don't care who Carlton or anyone else draft. We draft on who we think is the best available and fits our team.
