Has anybody put Trengrove's name in contention for pick 5? Looks a real talent to me and a more likely to make it than Hurley in defence imo.

I wouldn't blink an eye-lid if we picked up Trengove at #5, and from whispers I've heard, we've spoken to him

We would slightly consider taking him, a top 15 pick lock-in but hasn't got the natural class in my opinion compared to Ziebell or Hartlett. For the record, I'd be taking Ziebell with our first pick. Class written all over him, uses the ball extremely well and is as cool as a cucumber under pressure.

thanks for the fee back. i played on side bottom in the under 14s murray league grand final. he played in the ruck.. matty pianto a bushranger was a much better footballer then he was at that age

And Ziebell grabs the lead with 400m to go and is infront by the smallest of margins. (1 vote) Here is some pics of Ziebell if anyone wants to put them in their avatar or just save it in the comp. ;

Just a few point people need to remember when drafting and saying things:

1) We already will be 'developing' young Tayte Pears in the seniors, can we afford to have two in the same side, along with Paddy and Fletcher, maybe not.
2) It is a known fact that talls do tend to take a little bit longer to develop in their transition into senior football, we all have seem to have this vision that Hurley will be a Mal Michael gorrila type FB, he just may become that, he is still a kid, so he will need to bulk up before he becomes this gorrilla,
3) Hurley, may not even become thw player he is hyped up to be, i hope he is, i hope all of our fist rounders are superstars, but unfortunatley sometimes they do not live up to the Hype.
4) Do we really need midfielders, ok, may be best available, but why did the Blues take Kruezer last year, ok he dominated the champs last year, but IMO, Cotchin was the standout player for mine,
5) Where will these gun mids be playing in their first year, Ziebell may be the only one that 'could' play in the midfield in his first year, seems to have the strong body in the contest, Hartlett doesnt.
6) We all seem to assume that these players have to play senior footy in their first year, they may not, People talk about Tom Swift with our second pick, I blookdy hope so, but he wont play senior footy straight away, a few players from this years list werent ready to play senior footy, but were unfortunatley thrown to the wolves because of injury (see John Williams Rd 22)

Think about this first before we all say we have to take this or have to take them.

I don't want a gorrilla as a backman. The game is based on speed nowdays.

Wasn't one of the reasons Mal retired was because he is no longer suited to the speed and style of play?

Now if if Hurley can run and be a gorrila similar to a Hall, Rutten, Brown and even Franklin then that's a different story.

not really, the good teams just ues the ball well, Geelong arent overly quick, they are just smart, Hawthorn lkewise, this is the reason why the Bulldogs will not win the flag because they are exposed on the rebound too often, even St.Kilda when they use the ball well, win, when they dont, see you later, watch this weekends games, and think about what I have said.

I don't need to watch this weekends game. The gorrilla defender who lacks speed and agility is now extinct.

Bulldogs will not win the flag because they don't have two key forwards.

I stand by my opinion that Hurley and Rich are the 2 players who could play consistent footy at AFL level today - All things being equal.

For all we know they could injure a knee during pre season training in 2009.

For those who have seen Hurley, how do they compare him to Pears?

We talk of drafting a KPB. Yet it may be that we drafted him last year at pick 23??

Interesting to hear poster's thoughts

That's what I'm thinking.

That's why it sounds really (Really) risky to draft a key back for a top 5 (even 10) pick...

Best case scenario: You get a Brendan Goddard out of it all. (Brendan's the only matured defender I can think of that has gone top 5 in the draft lately)

Worst case scenario: Simon Prestigiacomo/Kepler Bradely...

Hurley seems to be a very well potentialed player that has the skill and semi developed body (ATM) to make an impact in the AFL. History has well shown though that drafting a highly reguarded defenders confidently hasn't always turned out well at all during the first round.

We really can't take any chances with the upcoming draft as next year will be very limited in any current AFL team getting any real talented players.

All we (Bomber Supporters) can do is hope that when [or if] we draft Hurley, is that our coaching and scouting staff had done they're homework and have confidently made the right choice...

Otherwise we can draft Hartlett or Zieball and everyone will be happy.:)

I think you'll find buddy that Goddard was drafted to be used as a midfielder.
Injuries in their back half (McGuire, Hudghton, etc) have meant that they have had to shove him in the back half to hold it up.

Knowing Goddard is been utilised as a defender... I used his example with caution.

Lachy Hansen would have been the next best example, but time will only tell with him... Not much after that.

Helping my point even more... Since I CBF getting every top 10 drafted defender over the past 10 years to compare...

Just take my word that there hasn't been much success in drafting defenders with a top 10 pick in the past 10 or so years.

I still want Hurley to be honest. The only midfielder I would want at 5 would be Swift as I do feel he could be the best out of the whole draft. He has Selwood written all over him. However I feel we will go Hurley and see if someone like Swift falls to our 2nd rounder OR perhaps try and get a pick 10-15 for Lovett and get Swift there.
