Come on foj , if i posted it without the little grins :D then you can have a go.
It was tounge in cheek that why i used the smiley icons :)

Fair enough,
I was in a crap mood and a few of my posts reflected that on that particular day.
Mood is better:thumbsu:
Ant did you watch Ziebell yesterday and what did you think?
I watched him very closely and I find it hard to get a handle on the bloke.
I am really interested in his testing. His speed is a query for me and AFL position is a query. I wonder if he is fully fit- there was a bit of strapping on his legs.
I would have loved him to play midfield more than he did.
Interestingly Matty Knights spent 3/4 time at Murrays huddle. Ziebell must have been who he was checking out.
It was great to see our senior coach there.

How do you know you've never seen him play.

It's funny how you've changed your tune on getting gun mids to now wanting Hurley. ;)

We can't get Rich and since no mids will be as good as Rich, it is better to draft to suit needs.

RIG, I have seen Swift a few times actually. Not much this season, but in the past. GUN.

Did not go yesterday, it was my wifes birthday so i had to attend the party.:D
I am like you though , he is an intersting player to watch but i have concerns about his overall pace. For us he could be a risk as you add too many blokes the same speed in the middle and you have no change up or variation.
He has been carrying injuries in the last half of the year which is why they have used him more as a forward.
I have seen Knights around watching a few different games over the last 4 weeks and the Bushies have feature in a few of them. Have also seen him watching the Geelong Falcons and the Chargers. Dont know if you can read anything into this but both he and Adrian Dodoro left before half time of last weeks Nth Ball v Gippsland game. Mybe we are not overly interested in anoyne form either side ?

Ant - Do you think there's any chance our recruiters would be willing to use pick 5 on Sidebottom? If they did, would you be pleased with the decision?

Would we be in danger of being one paced through the midfield? If you look at the best sides they don't have exceptionally fast midfields with only 1 or 2 genuinely quick mids with flankers providing some extra pace.

If we want to compete with the top sides we need to be able to compete physically with them through the middle. As the team that wins the most ball, breaks the most tackles and makes the most tackles useually wins the match. Ziebell would give us another 185 cm+ mid. This would give us quite a big bodied midfield core if you add him to Welsh, Watson and Myers.

Another thing I like the sound of when it comes to Ziebell is that he has a thumping kick. Watching Hawthorn last night it was pretty obvious that having midfielders who could kick the ball 60 meters allowed them to hit targets that would useually be out of reach and kick over zones.

I am starting to think that Ziebell is our man, have always been on the Hurley bandwagon, but, I was recently placing players in positions on a whiteboard, for our side next year, and we dont really need Hurley as much as people make out to be, we have Pears, who is still able to learn a few things of Fletch, and is still young, we have Paddy at CHB, and its not exactly like we arent going to pick up a young back in this draft, we may very well pick up a tall defender with a later pick though, Ziebell seems to be ready, he has that uncanny ability, he is looking more and more like a, might I say it, Simon Goodwin each time is see him play, He can play inside, he can play outside, he can puch forward, or can play back, has a booming kick, and is 'apparently' really strong overhead,

just a thought...

Well the two best sides in Geelong and Hawthorn have reasonably quick midfileds with a couple of steady paced players in them. The are quicker overall than ours.

Not denying this but we could at least wait until he proves himself at AFL level before saying he will be crashing through blokes.

Yes and that is why they liked Myers. Look the club will look at Ziebell and if they draft him i have no real problem with it.
My initial comment was i think there is a risk with his pace. Have said it all along and there are risks involved with everyone you draft.
Unlike others i don't get attatched to any particular kid in the draft. I look at three or four players who could suit us in each position. Ziebell is certainly one who could fit well as pick 5 but that does not change the fact that his pace could be a problem for him at AFL level.

Some chance. He has had a good finals series so far.
He is a very classy player with a good footy brain and skills so i would not be uhappy if they did.

And for the record for pick 5 here is what i think.
To start with it will all revolve around what extra picks we can get during trade week and if they are second round or third round.

If we go for a defender then Hurley is the go unless his 20 meter sprint times are absolutely horrible at draft camp.

For me i still think we should take a mid first (i think there are a few defenders that we could take later on). So which mid ? Well any one of Ziebell , Hartlett, Sidebottom or Steven Hill. They all bring something slightly different but are are strong in a number of areas.

So if we draft any one of Hurley , Ziebell, Harteltt,Sidebottom or Hill i will be happy.

Seems about right Ant's I would love for us to trade Lovett and maybe package our 2nd round pick to get our 2nd pick in the draft higher enough to get Swift, then if we got Hurley with the first pick that would be a great draft.

I like your thinking Ant.

Which KP defenders would you anticipate would be available at our 2nd pick (whether that be 23 or something slightly earlier after trade week)?
