Tom Allwright – 185cm, 83kg – North Hobart/Tasmania.
Midfielder/defender from Tasmania with reasonably good pace. Good reader of the play and is very composed under pressure. Nice right foot kick and a good mark. Good hands in close and his overall vision of play is very good. Gave good run out of defence while playing there.
I think this kid would prove to be a good late round pick up.

Yes thanks. I really rate him and think he has what it takes.

Any of the NSW/ACT kids worht a mention, as they are, am not sure on this, allowed to be on am AFL list outside the 38, as they are like a rookie, but a scholarship holder, have seen the sucess of the adelaide, well about to explode onto the scene, am just thinking we may be able to pull one out of the hat their, any thoughts.

I'm sure that the big blond kid Bristow, who plays for Bendigo, Is a NSW scholarship pick, but am not positive.

No he was from Gippsland Power. He trained with us before the darft . Hickmott coached him last year.

Thanks Ant was gonna say that, had some mates playing at Gipsland last year that played with him.

Ok, sorry about that.

I thought we had one of the NSW kids and it was him.Not sure where i got that idea from though.

Getting old :(

The kid you where probably thinking of was David Martin who came down from North Shore /Swans reserves. Dont think he has played much footy this year. Not sure why.

Not really much coming out of NSW/ACT.

I rate McNeill the best prospect outside of the scholarship holders - looked a very good bottom aged inside midfield prospect - he's a clearance machine, good ball winning ability, strong at the hips, solid pace, good tackling/defensive work.

Klemke did well in the champs as the general in defence, but not sure about a role at AFL level and doesn't really have any real standout qualities to me.

Bryce could be a likely type as a versatile small defender (played on some big names in the champs and did quiet well), but you wouldn't want to go any earlier than a 3rd rounder.

Frail may be a good ruck/KPP project player/rookie list prospect - about as skinny as Tony Notte (maybe more) though, but has a bit to work with.

do we have to use a certain pick on a scholarship holder, as I am not sure what pick the cats have/will use on their scholarship star ranga ediwicrama. Thoughts/Information.

Last pick in the national draft if you want him on the main list, last pick in the rookie draft if you want him on the rookie list.

Seem like to likely type of players that we may be able to groom into AFL players yet, Bryce could be that small defender we are really lacking, Slattery does the job, but seems lost on some occasions, and Rama is to slow for AFL now, And McNeil sounds like an ok player, considering he comes from an NRL heartland.

Last pick in the national draft if you want him on the main list, last pick in the rookie draft if you want him on the rookie list.

So it does not matter, are you only able to get one, or are you able to get two,

If your referring to Dylan McNeill, he is from Albury. AFL is preferred over rugby league on the border.

By all reports he has had a pretty good year with the Bushies playing on the ball. Was ok for NSW during the U18 carnival.

Sounds like he could be an ok player from all reports, could be a handy player at that, thoughts on him as a scholarship player, or is he not eligible, forgotten. Sorry:p

Aren't scholarships awarded only to players from NSW ACT Rams? If so McNeil is ineligible.

ok then, thanks, was not sure, am still not sure on how the scholarships work, any one else enlitten us.:thumbsu:

With out having a map off NSW handy but I think is basically anything north of Canberra or out of the sourthern area where AFL has a stronghold. I know that Hawthorn has a kid signed up from Broken Hill but I haven't seen any players being signed up from say Wagga or that could Pionners or Bushrangers squads. I could be wrong but I think I read something roughly along those lines on big footy

A question for ANT555---

you may have already answered this but I can not find it after a brief search.. In a word, (given what you have seen up to 1/8/08), who best fits Essendon's needs in this draft (I ask this question with the knowledge that this player may not be available to us come our pick but still interested in your opinion)

Thanks in advance

In an ideal world (is there such a thing :D ) at this stage i would go Hurley first right at the moment. If we where to go midfielder first i would like Hartlett. In saying this there is one disclaimer and that is i do wan't to see Hurleys draft camp results before i jump onto the band wagon.

Agree ant, will surprise a few people IMO, his draft results, does any body know where we may be able to aquire them when they are recorded.

If Hartlett is gone, do we go for Ziebell Ant.

Have been hearing a bit of whisper that Ziebell is alot better than Hartlett, and after watching the champs, Hartlett is the 2nd best mid in the draft.

Thanks Ant:thumbsu:

Hurley did a superb job nullifying McKernan last week. He also looked dangerous when forward. Unfortunately hurt his neck in an accidental collision. People are forgetting Trengove because he is injured but he is a damn good player. For mine the choices will be midfielder- Hartlett, Yarran, Blease or Ziebell or key/ruck Hurley, Trengove or Vickery.
Calling it so far out is difficult but it would be Hurley or Trengove for mine. After 1st round it is so hard to predict as you dont know who is left and who might slide. I see Blease, Vickery and Robinson as the 3 whos stocks are rising at the moment.

Another thing that was impressive about Hurley last week was the fact he was still kicking the footy 50 meters or so despite it being wet and muddy.
And im not ruling out Steven Hill as a bit of a mover. He was impressive all the way through the champ series and we already know how far he can run in a game.
