My assumption is that EFC may pick up Stephen Hill with their first selection.

He is fits into the Knights prototype of a rangy midfielder with speed and good disposal.

This is assuming that

Melb = watts
WC = Rich
Power = Hurley
Fremantle = Hartlett

I doubt that EFC will pick Natanui if he is available.

Edited to make me happy :D

Hill is a good player and may go first round but there's no way he'd be the best available. IF the draft went like you showed, then i'd definitely go for Ziebell.
But i can't see Naitanui not being picked up in the top 3

Natanui is mor likely to be picked up by Power.

I think their midfield is quite good.

Boak, Burgoyne, Salopek, Cassisi, Cornes, Rodan.

I have a feeling it will go something like this:

1. Melbourne - Jack Watts
2. West Coast - Daniel Rich
3. Port Adelaide - Michael Hurley
4. Fremantle - Nick Naitanui
5. Essendon - Hamish Hartlett

I agree with your fist 3 selections.

I couldn't believe that Fremantle ( for all their recruiting blunders ) would pick Natanui first, when they desperately need a midfielder.

I pose this question

Would EFC choose Natanui at selection 5 if he happens to slide this far ?

Yes

and turn him into a killer full back/CHB.

interesting one, i reckon port would snap naitanui up if he is there, they have an ageing ruck division.i also think port may finish above us seeing as they play melbourne next week

we do need mids, but if the rumours about us rating naitanui number 1 are true, surely we have to take him? i don't think the recruiting team would be doing their job if they overlooked the player they consider to be the best

They may very well select Naitanui. But like you said they're likely to finish above Freo considering they're facing Melbourne next week.

We would jump all over Nat - however on the upside if you hear Port read Hurley's name ....Hartlett should be there.

If Port take Nat ....Hurley should be there - like last year it is hard to lose in this first round of the draft (Nick Nat being the biggest risk).

After watching the Crows game - I am surprised to see so much desire for Hurley here. To me the two things that shone out were the need for a ruckman to support Hille and more midfield grunt. in clearances.

You have some great up and comers in the KP's - however as Freo know if you don't win that ball in the middle...it puts great pressure on the back half.

We were leading the league in clearances in the second half of the season I do believe. When we have our best 22 out there and fit we have a very good clearance ability. It was obvious during the Adelaide game that our best clearance players were carrying little niggles, and hence not even playing in the middle. Jobe started at full forward, Lonergan wasn't moving right, Hille broke his hand early in the piece so his tap work was not up to scratch. Throw in McVeigh to the midfield setup and the inside mids are more than capable of getting that ball out to advantage. Our problem lies with our defence, being able to lock down players. This is because of two reasons, firstly the followers are reluctant to push back and fill gaps in the defence, causing too many free players in the opposition's forward 50 and too many one out situations. Secondly the backmen we have are ageing, we need another solid lock down full back type. Pears and Ryder aren't enough to keep a backline secure in the future, especially if one goes down. A backline mix of 3 talls and 3 running/mid backs will be what we're looking at I think. So yeah, our number one priority should be drafting Hurley. I think Pears, Hurley and Ryder will be a really solid UNIT together in defence, each possessing different attributes which I hope they can put together and work as a team covering for each other.

Ziebell I think would be our second preference, as a skillful utility/mid type that looks VERY comfortable in possession. If Nik-Nat is available at our first pick I wouldn't feel too great about taking him on, as I believe you can find serviceable ruckman with your 3rd or 4th picks. It really must be said, ruckman don't win premierships, a solid team unit does. I wouldn't like taking our first pick on a flashy ruckman, when you can find a ruckman who will "do his job" later in the piece. I think our first and second picks should be reserved for a mid and a backman, best available of those positions at each pick. 3rd pick should be for a ruckman, and any pick after that should be best available. I think I've ranted on long enough.

To be honest I am happy with Rich, Natinui, Hurley, Hartlett, Vickery or Ziebell. Either way in this draft Essendon come up with a winner.
The fact that Hurley can land a chest mark perfectly from 55m out is really tempting over anyone else. Looks like a ready made player too.

I have a feeling we will get:

Hamish Hartlett or Michael Hurley
Luke Stanton, David Zaharakis or Nick Suban
Ryley Milne or Jake Welsh

Hurley instead of Hartlett, we have enough goalkicking mids (Stanton, Welsh, Mcveigh, Lovett, Houli)

Zaharkais and Suban will be gone by our second pick IMO, so Stanton my be best fit, but even still I have feelings their are better players than him at his satge, maybe 3rdround for Stanton.

And Milne, only if we dont pick up Hurley, as we have some young key backs that need developing, but, we wont know, draft day always throws up surprises. :p

I meant Hurley and Hartlett in that order sorry dude, I think he would be incredible for us, what I meant for the 3rd rounder is Milne if we can't get Hurley and vice versa. Wouldn't it be funny if we picked up Nev Jetta and Luke Stanton, I know we don't need another goal sneak though :D

Wow.. Mitch Robinson looks incredible! So hard in at it and doesn't seem to slow down. Looks like a good footy brain too. Like Shaun McKernan too! Nick Naitanui seems to be a ruckman with X-factor something that I haven't seen before not to mention nice hair! :D
