he would be awesome. exactly the player we need. but we'd have to move heaven and earth to get him. 1% chance of that happening.

Rich probably won't be available at no.5, but he is my draft hopeful anyway.

i would take Ziebell even though i don't rate him as highly atm.
Murray Bushrangers are having an exceedingly good year (won 15 from 17 i think). got a feeling he might be over-rated. but i'll take a close look at him on GF day, assuming Murray make it.

why is everyone voting for this bloke Hurley ???
key position defenders don't win games of football.

key forwards & inside midfielders are the ones to look out for with the high draft picks. :thumbsu:

Geelong and West Coast both one their premierships with average forwards lines but very strong midfields and backlines.

Geelong, yes an outstanding defence all-round, but WC just had Glass, the rest were solid goers at best.

Tippaz, Hurley can play as a key forward too and has done so successfully before at TAC Cup level - may even be the position he's moulded to play at AFL.

Glass, Hunter, Wirra were all very good players and Waters, Chick and Staker could easily do jobs on the weaker forwards. But yeah I guess Judd, Kerr, Counsins and Cox stopped them from ever really being undersiege.

Rich would be first choice (there's no way he'll fall to pick 5 though). So it's Ziebel for me. Although a key defender would be very handy to help cover fletch, we're also lacking a midfielder with great skills.

The midfield is where flags are won. Just look at the premiers over the last 8 years. I think all had at least one brownlow medalist in the centre except for maybe port in 04.

I don't like the idea of taking KP defenders or ruckmen with 1st round picks as these guys can usually be found later in the draft.

Both Ziebell and Jaime Sheahan have only played a hand full off games between them at the Bushrangers this year. I think that Ziebell game on the weekend was just his 4th

Hurley thanks.
Possible backliners for next year:
Tayte Pears (has guts, wanted to take buddy last year)
David Myers (more of a mid but can play back)
Bachar Houli
Henry Slattery
Michael Hurley
Paddy Ryder
Dustin Fletcher
Adam McPhee
Nathan Lovett-Murray

Lookin' good, one inclusion of a new full-back brightens the possibilitys by a whole lot.

Imagine this 2011ish:

David Hille AA Ruckman
Paddy Ryder AA CHB
Michael Hurley AA Fullback
Scott Gumbleton or AA CHF

Word is that Port are keen on Vickery.

We can only hope, seems paying a bit over price but I guess they are addressing needs before best available (not that they don't need a KP defender), I guess Brogan and Lade are definitely on their last legs.

I like Ziebell alot. Last weekend when he kicked the 6 goals he also took 6 contested marks and collected 19 disposals. Best thing about him is that he is so versatile, he can play in the midfield with great effect and also hurt the opposition on the scoreboard with his A grade disposal.

carlisle is very similar to hurley so i doubt they'd want him at pick 4. they need a marking forward but i still reckon they'll take the local boy hartlett

Personally, I don't think he is. I think Hurley will likely be a good afl player, but from reading these boards some people seem to believe he is guaranteed to be an AA defender when he isn't.

Based on previous drafts, you probably have a lower success rate taking KP defenders in the draft than highly rated mids. I can't actually think of any gun KP defender that were taken in the top 10 in previous drafts. Glass went at pick 11. The only solid KP defenders taken in the top 10 in previous drafts (that i can think of) are Polack, Williams, McPharlin, and Prestigiacomo. I'd rather a quality midfilder.

Gee this Ziebell kid, from the videos on youtube that Iv seen, looks a classy utility like player. Also looks to be a massive kick, which is always a positive. As someone wrote earlier on this board, he reminds me of a certain player that retired last year due to his height, and ability to play in a variety of position LOL
Although, if, like its been said that we have the choice of either him or hartlett, well, lets just say Im glad im not making that decision!!!
