I've been big on Ziebell since day one. His pace was reasonably good from what I saw at the champs. IMO has the best disposal behind Rich. Another thing I like about him is his versatility. Put him through the midfield with great effect, then rest him up forward as a third tall who can also crumb.

-- Ziebell is our man --

Because we don't have a late first rounder and he won't last until our second choice. He is also a chance to go top 10.

I really like the little i have seen of Ziebell also, but we need Trengove more.
A few clubs have expressed interest in Lovett, and it was also revealed that we were after a low first rounder. A deal could also be involved maybe involving another teams mid teens pick, our second rounder and Lovett.

It's funny because earlier in the year Ziebell wasn't even rated as a top 10 pick and now many would like him at 5.
For me, I would love Hurley but Ziebell or Hartlett would be great also.

I'm very keen on drafting Hurley or Hartlett... Trengove doesn't sound bad either. (courtesy of Merve)

Ziebell I'm a bit worried about though, till I see what he's really capable of I can't really get on his bandwagon.

for our second round pick i would like to us pick up hill or swift. i think hill would suit our game plan nicely. hopefully one would still be around by then.

does anyone think that maybe trading our pick 5 for melbournes pick 17 and 19 or west coasts pick 18 and 20 would be a good idea. we could maybe get trengove if he slipped and then maybe also be able to get swift and hill. very unlikey that it would turn out like that though

BIG NO.
I can see where you're coming from but there's no way in hell i'd do that.

A) doubt we going to trade our pick 5, only to upgrade it,

I agree on Hill first, if unavailable then Swift,

Would be a good outcome to get a late first rounder in my opinion. Might be able to nab a Tommy Swift, Sam Blease or a tall backman in Lisle.

Agreed great source. great minds think alike, :Dlol. who are we going to go after with our second pick guys, I wanna see some peoples thoughts.

Maybe Lisle, Jetta or Zaharakis for our second round pick. Wouldn't mind getting Jetta with our second, getting a bit of the 'brotherhood' attitude going, like at the Power.

I suspect that if either Hill, Swift or Walters were available in the second round, EFC will draft one.

There's only one of them that has a chance of sliding, and that's Swift. Walters and Hill will go first round, class written all over them.

Agree, although, this draft bertween picks 10 - 35, no body really knows, some people have young Shaun McKernan top 15, others mid 30s, shows the unpredictability of this group of draftees.

Just saw Ziebell's highlights again - if we're going to pick a midfielder with #5 its gotta be this guy.

Great marking ability, doesn't shirk the contest, gets his own footy and kicks both sides of the body.

Ziebell >>> Hartlett IMO

Having Myers and Ziebell rotating into the middle off HBF looks a very nice proposition to me :thumbsu:

When I said, "See more of what he [Ziebell] could do"... I didn't mean a highlight real. (slow internet doesn't help either)

People are saying he's only played 5 or so games for TAC, thats when I say we need to see more of him, who knows he can offer more than a running flanker.

And if he's apparently a lot similar to David Myers... Then we should really be looking elsewhere because in the end they both will just get in the way of each other.

All in all he's a fabulous player, but we should be worrying more about what we don't have, like an Inside (Hard-Working) Midfielder! and a key backman that will be there for seasons to come.

Yeah, big bunch of even footballers. Different strengths & weaknesses. Some of it will obviously come down to needs when it becomes a clear blanket over that dozen or so players.

Wouldn't mind getting Jetta with our second

I am totally against this as i feel we need to be very careful as we have a few players that are small or very light and won't ever end up with good builds.

Between Jetta, Magin and Williams you would be lucky to make 1 well built midfielder.

If we end up with too many of these types we will be in trouble.

It's ok picking kids if they are skinny but they have height and you can se they will bulk up later but with teams getting bigger and Mids being 188+ these days, these little guys are going to find the going tough imo and best 22's won't be able to carry many.

Good explanation, probably right.

I havent been doing as much research in this draft then the last 2 years but i reckon the top 5 might go like this -

Melbourne - Watts
West Coast - Rich
Fremantle - Naitanui
Port Adelaide - Vickery
Essendon - Ziebell/Hartlett

I hadn't seen much of Williams before Sunday, but he looked tall enough and capable of bulking up.

Get set of dukes on him too - but looked like a lot of development is needed in most other aspects of his game.

Why would they be worrying about what they don't have if there is clearly a better player available?

Ziebell has been rotating between CHF and the midfield the last couple of weeks and has been best on ground last 2 games kicking 6 goals and 4 goals.

Agree with your points you made. However...

Ive only seen Ziebell play in that game. I watched the whole game when it was on but those highlights had one glaring thing about them. He hit about 2 targets out of about 10 kicks. The last thing we need to do is pick up a player with those sort of foot skills.

That may have been an off day for him kicking wise I dont know. But if thats the only footage you've seen of him then I wouldn't be too keen on him being our 5th pick.

If we were to upgrade to a late first round pick I hope we take Blease as the midfielder. He is small but he has great pace, looks like he has good foot skills, his decision making gets a tick and has good vision.

As for the first rounder my vote is still Trengove until there are facts in front of me to say Hurley has the required pace for AFL football.
