Emma Quayle's draft camp summary

THE DEFENDERS

"Michael Hurley isn't quick, clocking a smidgen over three seconds in the 20-metre sprint. So the clubs considering him as a key back will have to weigh his speed off the mark versus his long list of attributes — his precise, long kicking; his aggression, poise, ability to grab a mark at key moments and to go forward if needed. Essendon and Carlton could do with key defenders and he'll be in their thinking".

Didn't someone say he ran under 3 seconds? According Emma he didn't...

Anyone know what 20m sprint Scarlett has run?

It's hardly one game. People in the know (e.g. ant) have been raving about him for a while.

Can we keep ant out of this one, please!:)

He's a good footballer but we can't just rely on one fabulous game of footy from him.

He wouldn't even be in my priority list if he didn't have that massive game so I'll give him that.

Why? He was being hyped as a first rounder long before the finals of the TAC cup.

I haven't watched much under 18s, you haven't watched much under 18s, but those who have hyped him very highly.

Sidebottom.
Avereraged 22 possesions per game during the TAC Cup season.
Played champs for Vic Country averaging 20 possesions.
Made the 2008 AA side selected from all the players who played national champs.
Has a great finals series where he was named in the best three in all games including two BOG performances.

It was not just one good bloody game !
He has been a star all season !

Ant, i know you've said that you'd prefer someone like Sidebottom over Ziebell because of the pace factor, but their 20m sprints were .02 seconds apart from memory. I've also heard that Ziebell has a good burst of speed but not a great top speed.

With this said, is there really much of a difference between the two as far as speed goes? I was eager to see Ziebell in the TAC Cup final but because he was influenced by an injury, it was difficult to make any judgements on him.

How many times have you seen them in a live game?

I know for a fact that he didn't come and meet ant555 and myself at the Telstra Dome, so I doubt very much he was at that one.

Not a lot in their sprint times and i would say not a lot of difference in over pace.
There is a big difference in their 3km time trail and beep test. Ziebell would have tested better if he was injury free but Steele put up some genuine midfield numbers in that department. I don't think that Ziebell has the engine to match them.

Interestingly Neville Jetta hasn't spoken to any of the WA sides as of yet and you would've thought they would considering he does come from WA.
Geelong, Bulldogs, Melbourne, Port Adelaide & us are the clubs that have held talks with him, so them clubs obviously are quite keen on gaining his services so if we want him, we'd have to grab him with our second rounder because there'd be no chance he'd be available at our third round pick.

Steele's beep and 3km time trial is something that really impressed me too, but building a bigger fitness base is probably the easiest part of your game that you can improve once you get to an AFL club.

That's why i really don't think it's an issue for Ziebell, as after a few pre-seasons at AFL level, his endurance would obviously improve, and his beep test would be at the 14+ mark.

One reason why i prefer Steele is because he has that 'gamebreaker' part to his game, and he can just have patches of dominance.
From when i've seen Ziebell, he really didn't stand out or do anything that made me go "Wow." To me, he just looked like a good, natural footballer. But Sidebottom looks like he has a lot more upside.
