Hurley for mine, He is a natural backmen and is an Adam Hunter type player (apparently) a natural footballer with even better smarts. Imagine Hurley FB, Ryder CHB. Bring on the next 10 years.
If Hurley goes, Then i think DeBoer. He has an X-Factor is able to break tackels with ease and runs and kicks long goals, a similar player to Ryan Griffen.
Their are some players who may fall into the 2nd 3rd round categories, just want some thoughts on them.
Luke Stanton (any relation to Brent, not sure) he seems a really likely type, good clean hands, long kick, and has pace to burn, a place for him at Essendon. Also Jay Shannon from SA, he is a hard at it midfielder and took the honours against some high profile opponents today. Was almost BOG today, in the 2nd game. Thoughts.
Tyson Vickery, A mountain of a man, with an even better leap, played a really good solid game today, worked hard just as much around the ground, even found time to get forward and snag a couple.
And last but not least. NEville Jetta, he was really good as a small forward/half forward, worked hard both offensively and defensively, kicked a couple of goals and also set up a couple.
Thoughts on these would be great.
on a last note, I dont think Yarren is the player we need.
Luke Stanton , no relation to Brent , was good for Metro. Highly skilled kid who has come on a lot from last year . He always had the ability but now he has a bit of consistancy in his game.Runs hard and has good pace. Would definately be a good second round pick up.

So Ant, would you be happy if we picked up Hurley with our first rounder and Luke Stanton with our second rounder? Are there any other midfielders who could be available with our second round pick that look like they have what it takes to become good AFL midfielders?

Interesting you mentioned Jetta , yesterday i thought both Yarran and Walters where better than Jetta.Yarran was good up forward early in the game when WA where setting up their lead and then played half back later on and provided some good run.
Walters was their best small forward. Really chased hard ,kicked 3 goals and used the footy really well. I thought Jetta's skills let him down a few times and he missed some easy goals he should have kicked.
Not sure that we would be looking directly at any of these three boys but Yarran showing he could play a bit at half back was a plus for him in the future.
Vickery would be the best pure ruckman going around ( big Nat is more of a RR with a big leap and midfielders pace). His skills are pretty good for a big bloke and like you said he has the leap.

Swift could* slip through, he has some real talent, though he is injured at the present moment so might be a slight risk.
From what I've heard, Jetta had probably been the best of them (Walters, Yarran and himself) in the lead up to yesterday's game. He probably doesn't have quite the ability of Walters and Yarran, but has shown a lot this Carnival. He won't be a first rounder, but could be a good get in the second. But as you say, we probably won't be looking directly at that type of player.
Ayce Cordy?
On another note, glad to hear you've come round on Nick Suban's limitations.

i doubt whether swift will fall to our second round. everyone will look at joel selwoods injuries running into his draft, and decide that swift is worth the risk.
They May have a forward line. but the rest of there team is standerd. or below par to make finals mate!Pavlich, Tarrant (who is a AA player), Farmer, then Mayne. That is a pretty decent forwardline.
What do you guys think of Ranga Ediriwickrama?
Looks like a hard hitting inside midfielder...loves a tackle or two.
He seems to be overlooked, maybe a 2nd round pick?

Yep. Geelong already have him.
Melbourne just suspended Aaron Davey. Any chance we could lure him to Essendon to play with his bro? Would we want him?
No....
Probably not. It'd be bloody good though, Alwyn running down the wing taking on Pendlebury, then takes on Thomas, handballs over the top to Aaron who takes O'Brien & Brown, has a stab at goal and scores..! What a goal..!![]()
If we could get him cheap, yes. Otherwise no.Melbourne just suspended Aaron Davey. Any chance we could lure him to Essendon to play with his bro? Would we want him?
How about a bit more than no.... Reasons perhaps. I think he is contracted for a couple of years still though.
Because two Lovett/Davey types are better than one.
