Yep. Geelong already have him.

How does this scholarship thing work...(Sorry to sound stupid)

First time I heard of it was in last years' draft. I thought it was only for NSW (one of those concession thing they get) and then realised Adelaide picked up someone as well through this scholarship system.

If Geelong have got Ranga in this year's draft, does every club have the same opportunity to pick up someone through this scholarship system?

I think that anyone north of Wagga is free game for all clubs.

For all the people going tomorrow, I reckon that at half time in the first game, we should meet up and say hi at aisle 1, level 1. I'll be the one with the Reimers jumper:)

I have no idea what i will be wearing tommorow but i will see you there at half time :thumbsu:

If i can I will definitely come say hello as well :thumbsu:

I echo the thoughts of King-James as well. :thumbsu:
I will probably try and grab a wing seat at the start, but that shouldn't be a problem at half time, I'll just get Dad to mind my seat, or alternatively chuck a bag on it and off I go.

Would love to have Hurley or Hartlett with our first pick. With Hurley you may get a solid FB for the next 10 years and Hartlett looks quality, doesn't fumble and knows how to use it.

Well I'm sure you all saw the greatness that is Daniel Rich on display.

So NOW you agree with me. To miss out on him makes me not happy one single bit, he will be a absolute gun to say the least. If I had the no1 pick I'd have no hesitation in picking Rich up. Star!

As for who we draft, yeah Hartlett wouldn't be bad. The more I watch Yarran the more I don't want to pick him with a high pick. Hurley might go before our pick based on his very good form in the Champs.

I have to say for all the hype before today, certain high priced players were disappointing imo.

Yarran was very ordinary, Hartlett showed some signs but didn't excell and here is what i posted in the Hurley thread on the draft board.

I have only seen him once this year, today, but i didn't think he lived up to the hype so far.

Was easily turned inside out by Naitanui twice, resulting in goals and led to the ball on a couple of occasions for marks one which resulted in a goal.

In a team that won easy and the ball didn't get down there very quickly, he was responsible for 3 goals directly.

He is a lump of a lad and i can't help but wonder has he excelled due to him easily out muscling his smaller opponents?

Of course as i said, only 1 game so maybe it wasn't a true representation of him.

Once again, i am referring only to their games today but i was far more impressed by some of the "no name" players.

lolwut?

I've been a MASSIVE fan of Rich's and felt we shouldn't miss out on him since last year.

Glad there is two of us wanting WCE and Freo to win a few games so we get the no2 pick then. Good!

Watching Hartlett today though i wouldn't say he's too far behind and Rich has had a better midfield around him.
You couldn't say that you would rather lose every game from here on in to have a chance to pick up Rich now would you?

Hartlett isn't bad but if losing every game means we get Rich, it is very tempting I can tell you! Of all the midfielders he has the best disposal by far. Absolute gun!:thumbsu:

Just got back from the champs, and had a great day. It was good to meet ant555, but I have to say I'm disappointed in everyone else who didn't show up.

I'll post my thoughts/notes/votes here in a minute.

I went to aisle 1, and didnt see anyone
Woulda loved to meet a few of your fellas

Game 1: SA v NSW

South Australia were very impressive. NSW I thought were the worst team today, and it's a little surprising that they beat Tassie to the Div 2 title. I was very impressed with Tassie in the first half, and 98 points was not an accurate representation of that game. SA played as a team and had a lot of solid contributors, whereas NSW relied on one or two players, and failed to achieve anything much. Even in the third quarter when they scored a fair few goals, they were still a little disappointing.

Player notes:
SA:
2 Hamish Hartlett:
Showed a lot of poise under pressure, dodging and weaving. Rich aside, I thought he was the most consistent of the top 10 prospects. Showed a lot of quality, and I would not be disappointed at all if we got him.
33 Damien Hynes: Played well as a small forward
24 Lewis Johnston: Played in a manner very similar to Dale Thomas. Has a bit of a hot head, and is a very good crumber.
35 Luke Tapscott: Great instincts for his volley goal in the 2nd (?).
38 Matthew Sharpe: Showed composure under pressure, and has good decision making.
3 Ben Speight: Showed poise and courage
36 Jack Redden: Laid some huge tackles, and looks to be a real tough nut in the midfield.
32 Jarred Redden: Was very impressive. The NSW ruckman was a huge man, and he rucked very well against him. Was also very good around the ground. Was probably the best ruckman today.
7 Christopher Hall: Good small forward, and played very well
30 Rhys Stanley: Was also very impressive in the ruck.
9 Alex Wilson: Reminded me of Tyson Edwards in the way that he always ended up ahead of the pack. Got a lot of the ball.

NSW:
10 Kade Klenke: Has a decent mark and kick on him
20 Scott Reid: Is a good mark and kick
14 Xavier McMahon: Took some good contested marks
3 Daniel Spiteri: Got a lot of the ball, and seemed to be NSW's most important player in midfield. My concern would be that he seemed very small, especially for AFL level. Perhaps another Fortunato Caruso?
27 Brodie A'Vard: Showed a fair bit of poise as a key backman, getting to the right contests, and doing the right things there. Perhaps worth looking at as a rookie pick.
9 Mitch Clisby: Laid some massive tackles.

Votes:
1. Alex Wilson (SA, #9)
2. Jarred Redden (SA, #32)
3. Hamish Hartlett (SA, #2)

I was there at half time of the first game, and the only one with an Essendon jumper on.

Game 2: TAS v VIC COUNTRY
This was a very curious game. The first quarter was exceptional, and the pace was frenetic right from the word go. It soon settled into a rhythm, but was still very fast. In the first two quarters, Tasmania were a long way on top, but just couldn't convert that into scoreboard pressure. The second half was VC's, but not by a huge amount. The 98 point scoreline was very surprising to say the least.

Player notes:
Tas:
11 Mitch Robinson: Pretty quiet. Has decent skills, but didn't get enough of the ball to really show that. Is still highly rated.
23 Jacob Hislop: Didn't set the world on fire, but still showed a little. Gets himself into good positions. Possibly a rookie pick.
8 Brentyn Milverton: Showed a lot of courage as a small defender, backing into a lot of marking contests. Possibly a rookie pick.
14 Jesse Crichton: Pretty impressive on a wing

VC:
10 Nicholas Suban: Showed some class in weaving around opponents. Very strongly built. Played in the backline, not in the midfield (as he does for North Ballarat). He seems to be a defender, not a midfielder.
16 Steele Sidebottom: Was very impressive, especially early when he had a lot of the ball. Was courageous in diving into packs. However, he plays pretty unaccountably - he pushes up the ground a lot, and leaves his man behind. Perhaps better suited to a wing.
21 Jack Ziebell: Classy. Took a nice mark, has good skills, and lived up to his high rating - he played like a high draft pick.
20 Nick Heyne: Played on Robinson and they sort of cancelled each other out. Has nice skills and did a few good things.
6 Jamie Sheehan: Tough. Won a lot of touches, has nice skills and kicked a nice goal. Was very impressive.
2 Ryan McKenzie: Played very well early, was leading well and took some good marks and kicked some good goals early. Was very quiet after that. A question mark over his height for key position.
32 John Butcher: Was very impressive as a strong marking forward. A great mark and kick.

Votes:
1. Steele Sidebottom (VC, #16)
2. Jamie Sheehan (VC, #6)
3. John Butcher (VC, #32)
