Re: Draft choices

I don't know anything about him (and I doubt that you do either except from what you have read - no offense) but if he is currently playing junior footy as a CHB I will bet $1000 he won't go top 5.

Fact is, any junior footballer that is any good either plays as a forward or in the midfield.

Defenders in junior footy are usually those who have been found wanting up forward. Clubs are not going to take a big risk on these guys especially in a deep draft.

You sure you want to bet....will be the easiest grand I have ever made! Hurley will go top 3, not just top 5. Natuai, Rich, Hurley..pick your order, depends on who gets what pick!

Re: Draft choices

Hurley will be drafted top 5 and is a CHB

That's what was said about Jarryd Roughead.

It's not easy to pick where key position players will end up when they're 17-18.

As for this year's draft, what type player we end up with is anyone's guess. Development of each young and old players currently on our list over the next 3/4s of the season will be a key indicator, as will be our final ladder position.

Tom Swift is definitely one we should be tracking. Great inside and out, attracts a lot of the ball and has a real defensive side to his game. He's playing down back with good impact in the WAFL Colts as he returns from a knee reco, it'll be interesting to see how he goes as he steps into the midfield.

I really like Swift as well, that said if we get the no2 pick I sure as heck want Rich with that pick as he is a bit better as a midfielder, nothing against Swift as I have seen him play a few times and he oozes class, but I'd take Rich over him any day of the week.

As for this draft..if we do not take a GENUINE midfielder with our first two picks I'll dead set shoot someone..I am looking at you Dodoro!

Hurley will go top 3-5 due to versatility, anyone who can hold a key postion at either end and star in that position- likely to get a AA as a CHF this year..add to his CHB AA..plus a superb kick!

Re: Draft choices

Gee, the top 3 sorted in April.

Impressive.

They are the best 3 players, things change I agree, and it depends on where each club ends as well. If we come 2nd last and WCE 3rd last I can see Hurley slipping to 4th or 5th, but that is about it.

Re: Draft choices

Daniel Rich, just quietly, has been pretty average lately in a dominate side.

Even in his "average" form he is still impressive. He is the best midfielder in the draft.

Re: Draft choices

Where do you see him ?

Do you travel the coutry watching Rich and Hurley every week ?

I don't watch Hurley a lot but I have seen him in a few games this year as I try to get to as many Bombers games as possible, it is difficult to do it every week. My work is based in WA so I do see Rich a fair bit.

Re: Draft choices

If Melbourne get less than 5 wins, do they get picks 1 & 2? (Didn't they have less than 5 last year as well?)

No, they had 5 wins last year meaning they don't get two picks:thumbsu: If Carlton or Richmond finish with less than 5 wins though, they get two picks in the first round:thumbsdown: I can see Richmond winning at least 3 more games but i have my questions over Carlton. they could end up with two highly rated youngsters (like Rich and Hurley etc)

Thanks Windas.

Re: Draft choices

Do we get a priority pick after the first round of drafting, if we finish with less than five wins. Weren't we screwed by that last time we needed one?

Re: Draft choices

A small correction. It's 4 wins (16 points) or less, not less than 5 wins. Meaning that you can't have 4 wins and a draw and still qualify for the extra pick.
