Re: draft value of EFC current senior list

I don't see your point in listing players we wouldn't dream of letting go.

Paddy at 1-10? Why would we even consider it?

Neagle? He's possibly the key to the future of our whole forward line!

Myers and Pears,Reimers,Jetta,Houli,Lonergan,Dempsey...these guys are the skilled ones who havn't strung a great deal of games together yet.

This type of list you've posted should only includeplayers who can add some value to the trade table.

Winderlich,Watson,Nash,Slattery,Mcphee,Monfries..these are the players that can be used in a deal to swap for 1st rd draft picks.

No other club will be interested in our older players. Nor would EFC bother anyway to put any of them on the market.

Re: draft value of EFC current senior list

You need to look at what stage of the development each player is.

-Bellchambers apparently is developing well and was surprisingly not drafted in the ND of 2007. Clubs look to the future with ruckman.

- Fletcher could be drafted at 15 to 25 by a team who is close to a premiership. For example if Hawthorn missed out on the premiership because of their defensive frailities, Fletcher would be an appealing pick.

- Houli is a second year player with a developed physique. I believe that he is a steal at 42 but needs to win the ball more in the first half of games.

- Myers is a first round pick who has played one game. I am certain that by the end of the year he will justify pick 1 to 10.

What?

Nobby

Every club in this AFL does this kind of exercise.

All propective coaches rate the list of their prospective clubs at job interviews.

It is harder for me to rate the list living in Hong Kong as I see few games live, which can provide a different perspective.

This is where I see the list and possibly where other clubs the list.

who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

The consensus of the experts is that Natanui and Rich ( are currently ) the outstanding candidates for the top 2 draft selections.

Assuming that Natanui was No 1 and Rich was no2 and that Essendon had the number 1 draft pick. Who do Essendon Pick as NO 1.

You either draft for need or choose the best available player.

Would Essendon choose Natanui as the best available player or Rich for current needs.

What is your opinion ?

I hear ya mate. It's all so much clearer now....

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

The thrust of the argument is whether you draft the best available player or the best fit for your club.

Do we draft Natanui who is probably the best available talent or Rich who is a gun midfielder and probably a better fit for the team.

Hawthorn adopted a best fits need strategy and it is working for them.

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

Daniel Rich, We already have a our own Natanui in Ryder so I don't think we should go him, especially when we are dying for an elite A grade midfielder that Rich could possibly be.

Geez I'd take 2 Paddy Ryder's thanks.

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

Rich, we already have 4 ruck avaliable rucks although Natanui would have the most potenial its not our area of most need.

Hille is a solid ruckman and thats all we have got.

Laycock is hanging by a thread with his form, Bellchambers is raw and Ryder is a utlity atm.

Ryder will be a full time ruckman at some stage he stated this on radio about a month ago when Pears starts to get solid game time. Bellchambers is raw but is still a year ahead of Natanui and has showed some good signs for bendigo. At this stage we need Rich alot more.

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

With the lack of quality players/skills through the middle of the grown, I would say a 'A' grade midfielder would be a must. Between, Hille, Laycock and Bellcom the ruck is ok and with Ryder, Gumby, Neagle, Pears & Daniher I would say key stocks should be good for a few years as well.

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

We could go with best available as long as it isnt a forward.
I know we are desperate for classy inside mids and that is probaly the way we should go first but the prospect of Fletcher and Micheal retiring in the near future leaves us a bit light on for tall defenders so we had better be looking at using a second rounder for a defender.
As far as being agressive in trading i will not be expecting to pick up a lot of first rounders. The days of clubs giving away early pick for players who are not genuine stars are gone and we wont be offering to many genuine stars.
I will be happy if we land a couple of extra second and third rounders.
Anyone thinking we are going to grab an extra couple of first rounders will be extremely disapointed come the end of trade week.

I'm still trying to work how Nathan Lonie was worth a first rounder.

Anyway back on the topic. I'd go for Natanui ahead of Rich. We have always had a weakness in the ruck and it is no different today.

Having said that if I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Rich.

We could go with best available as long as it isnt a forward.

And with that in mind we could go for Natanui knowing full well that Ryder can then play in the backline.

Best available is best unless there is a massive imbalance in the needs category.

Ryder just has too much talent to be plonked in the backline permanently.

If Essendon had the #1 pick I'd imagine they would make a play for Rich.

However if Sheedy was still there he'd grap Natanui in a heart beat ;)

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

Both are W.A boys. Are either of them like Myers, who wanted to get out of W.A? Or is one/both of them adament about playing in Perth?

I wouldnt want to waste a pick on a kid who was potentially going to leave in a couple of years...

Re: who would Essendon FC draft if we have Pick 1 in the National Draft

I'd got for Rich. Both are potential stars but our club is in dire need of A-grade mids.
