We may have drafted mids but apart from Myers are any A Class midfielders? Not sure to be honest, Houli maybe but we need 2-3 real A Class mids. Yarran is a talent for sure but there are doubts as to whether he'll cut it as a midfielder. Paying pick 3-4 for a small crumbing forward (as good as he is) is way over the odds. Just an opinion, but I'd be leaning towards a midfielder, if not I'd take Hurley before Yarran.

And im sure that Collingwood are hugely disapointed at paying over the odds for Didak....... according to your theory of course.

Besides Ant, is there anyone commenting here that has actually seen any of these kids play ???

Its ridiculous that people are having so called opinions based on either what Kevin Sheahan said in a 2 minute grab on SEN or what so and so poster on the Drafts and Trading Board has said.

How someone can say Yarran is no good or that Hurley is perfect for us without ever having seen themm play is beyond me ???
Not only that, they don't know the kids temperament and his family circumstances etc. There are a hell of a lot of intangibles out there that can affect a players ability that need proper investigation first.

I don't *know* the players, all I know is that I would love to see a young, A-grade-potential midfielder running around our tracks. :D

I have seen them play before in a few champ games last year, nothing recently, but I havn't seen enough of them to make a decision as to whether they'd be right player for the club or anything like that which is why I ask Ant these sort of questions.

I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about who we should get in this years draft even know we don't all know a whole heap about these players, because it's just what bigfooty's all about.

Me for one...

How good is Suban?

What are his strengths and weakness?

Suban is a silky skilled mid, natural footballer who has the potential to rack up plenty of disposals...He was an under age All Australian last year, so he certainly has great talent...He is never afraid to put his body on the line, though when he gets heavily tagged in some matches he can really struggle, but that's like most young players so not to much of a worry there...Just as a side note, Cotchin got heavily tagged a couple of times in last year's champs and didn't have any real impact but still got selected at pick 2...

Is he a good clearance player?

From what I've seen from him, he wins most of his footy in an uncontested fashion but when he is required to put his body on the line he doesn't hesitate to do so very often...

Thanks, great insight.

Whilst McGinnity held Cotchin in the first game, it was injury that restricted him from there on in.

As for Suban, whilst he can find the football and is good with the tough stuff, he is advantaged by being a fair bit bigger than his opponents.

He isn't overly quick either.

Let's wait and see a little bit, he mightn't be quite as high on the radar as some seem to think.

You still have to have the will to go in and find it. There have been plenty of kids like Suban who have had solid bodies but do not charge in as hard. Lets face it Suban is not just winning the ball becasue he can crash into people.
Nth Ballartat use him at half back becasue he has good skills on both sides of the body and they want him directing the play and using the footy.

I'm not questioning his ability. You can't do what he's done without it.

I just feel that with pace at such a premium these days and with his stoppage ability being enhanced by his body at junior level, he may not be the top 5 prospect some make him out to be.

Out of curiousity, how's his form been going for North Ballarat? I had a look at him earlier in the season against my younger brother's side and I can't say he got in it a lot, but came out on top when he did. Looked a little bit behind the play, but I'm confident I got him on an off day. Still, his tackling was a class above.

His form has been a bit up and down this year even during the Champ games so far.
I don't really buy into the whole bigger body argument. You still have to have the natural instinct to play footy in close and he has it. You can crash in with a big body all day but you still have to have the skills to know where to position yourself and the skills to be able to pick the ball up cleanly and use it well. Anyway he played very well last year in the middle when he was 4kg lighter than what he is recored at this year so his body size was not a factor there.
He may well be a bit of a stretch to go top 5.His overall form this year probably place's him in the 8 to 20 area as far as draft picks go but i really like him. He is a natural player with good skills on both sides and he has leadership qualities. Yes his pace is not what you would call fast but he is good in traffic and has the skill level to compensate for it.

Re: Merged Trade/Delistings threads

You've got the wrong thread, but...

From the AFL website -

Neville Jetta – I've watched Neville the last couple of weeks and he is very exciting. He has great evasive skills and used the ball well against Country with 15 possessions. Playing further up the ground in a high half forward role he had seven inside 50s and three tackles. He really did show a bit and he's been quite consistent over the entire carnival.

Re: Merged Trade/Delistings threads

From all reports, he plays a very similar brand to Leroy as a junior.

Pushes up the wing from half forward, got great skills, lethal pace and some real spark about him.

Probably isn't blessed with Leroy's vision, but few are.

He's probably in the 20-30 range at the moment.

I'm quite sick of getting fed the KPP line.

I swallowed it for a bit, but honestly, am sick of it. We've been recruiting hack big man after hack big man for how long now?

All the while being told that Midfielders are a dime a dozen.

But no, as we've proven for the last how many years, a team can't be sucessful with good bookends and a crap midfield. You pull out Stanton, Monfries, Winders, Dyson, Houli, Lonergan, Watson. I mean, yes, some of them will be really good, some might pan out to be crap, but which one of those is going to step up and become the next Judd? or Gablett, or Cousins?

We need to prioritise out midfield, because without some (multiple, ,more than one) guns in there, all the big men in the world aren't going to help.

Man i agree, have beenb hating it. for so long now, have seen all these young gun mids walk into sides and become great players, but us, what do we have with our first round.

Bradley, Awesome hey,
Gumbleton, prospect, thats all.
Ryder, promising yes,
