Here's a photo of Yarran so you can easily recognise him Goon ^^

You're getting quite a list Ben, some of those guys I mentioned probably shouldn't be high priorities, a few of those guys are just players that I like the look of for later in the draft or even the rookie list. Some aren't even eligible this year.

Personally, I think the best way to approach Championships games is to take note of the guys that do anything catching. These are the guys that usually drafted, and they tend to stand out in what is usually a reasonably ordinary standard of football compared to the big league, as you'd expect.

Go with a list, but don't exclusively look for them. Let them catch your eye. It's easiest way to watch the match and still get enjoyment from it, whilst also seeing who's got talent on an even broader scale.

Cheers for all this.

You sound like you know a lot about the champs - are you going next Wed?

Personally I would be happy if we took swift and he did even half of what Joel Selwood did in his 1st year but if we took swift I would hope it would be on the basis that he is not likely to suffer from these injuries all of his career, if it looked as though he was going to be injury prone throughout his career then I would be praying for Broadbent or Walters or even DeBoer or Zaharakis to slip to our second rounder.

Yeah, but Joel is doing all right at the moment. Hasn't been injured that much.

Hope Swift will be the same.

I know that the likes of Yarren, Suban, Watts, Hurley, Hartlett etc are being suggested as possible candidates for our first pick, but what about Ziebell? Is he someone who could be taken with our first pick or is he a more in the 10-15 range? Sounds like a promising young player:

Jack Ziebell - Medium defender / midfielder who has exceptional capacity to win the contested football and make great decisions with it and under pressure. Missed game 1 due to injury but was Vic Country's most influential player in games 2 & 3. Strong overhead and powerful on the burst, he hits his targets with hand and foot.

Jack Ziebell – This kid was the star in my opinion. He was outstanding and uses the ball so well. I've been lucky enough to have a bit to do with him through the AIS academy this year, and it's a big call, but I think he has AFL leadership written all over him. Against WA he was tough in the contest, his clearance work was fantastic and he set the standard for his teammates early diving head first into a contest.
When he was needed most in the final term he was winning contested football and also taking contested marks across half-forward. He just reads the play so well and as a result ended up with 22 touches. Jack also had seven clearances and three tackles and he is a great player to have back in the side, firing for Victoria Country.

Sounds very similar to Tom Hislop. Wouldn't mind having him.

But I reckon we need a good KPP prospect first before we address our midfield issues.

Ziebell is pretty clever around goals as well.

But I'm hearing 10-15 is the more likely range for him.

Probably right, the one thing he lacks is the absolute x factor that pushes players into the top 6 spots. He is pretty much a hard nut who goes in and gets the job done. Uses the ball well but does not have that Judd like elusivness around the packs. Gets the ball out by using force and good vision tied in with good skills rather than explosve pace and and being elusive.

So more like a Luke Ball type?

How tall is he?

nah, he wouldn't fit in round these parts... :p

Sort of a Luke Ball type. Would say he has better kicking skills than Ball.
He is listed at 188cm and that would not to far off the mark.

For anyone interested Natanui's highlights are now up as well on bigpond. Zaharakis looked quite good however someone who I haven't heard a great deal about but impressed me a bit was Jesse Chrichton, midfielder who looked to have good pace and decent skills too as well as being able to get the ball out of the pack, can anyone confirm this? what range would he go around?

A few of the short clips can be found on the Draft and Trading board (thanks to Dave The Man). Heres a few:

Are there any good small to medium defenders (the type who can play on the Motlops/Eberts etc.) in the draft - possibly to look at with a second or third pick?

Suban played on Yarran in the backline against WA and did a very good job from all reports. This is what Jason McCartney had to say on afl.com.au - "Nick Suban – Got my attention for different reasons against WA. He's an on-baller, but full credit to the Country coaching staff, they changed things up against the home side. He played as a permanent small defender on Chris Yarran, an exciting talent who looked extremely dangerous, and wore him like a glove. He provided good rebound when needed and uses the ball exquisitely. Nick's another AIS academy boy and to see him play a different role on a dangerous forward was a real positive. It was a great game for his development."
