Re: Lovett suspended for 2 games

A slip up once or twice throughout a career is acceptable, but it seems he doesn't want to follow team rules for a fair while now and doesn't mind the consequences or else he would have pulled his head in ages ago. Some serious trade bait at the end of the year I reckon, and a few people in this thread agree with me as well, while he still has value and it is evident that he doesn't want to follow team instructions that are required, things need to change.

Not that I think Knights will trade him, as he seems to like him and considers him an important part of the team, but the fact that he has had two indiscretions this year may impact on his worth at the trade table anyway. I don't think any clubs want to trade into a player who has recent history of not following rules, so you may get less for him than what he is worth.

As I said, I doubt Knights is even think of that anyway.

Re: Lovett suspended for 2 games

I like the stance by your club on this one. One week is something, but two couuld break your season, and if so he should feel a lot of responsibility for it.

Yeah, I don't think Knights would trade him, but it's something to think about. He has had numerous incidents this year alone, and doesn't seem to be slowing down in that regard.

Don't get me wrong though, when he is in full flight he is one of the best players in the AFL but when you get a bunch of these blokes at a club, that consistently like to push the limits, things start to go pear shaped.

Re: Lovett suspended for 2 games

OK. Concentrate whilst you read the following;

Im aware of his history. That's why I believe the 2 match ban AT THIS STAGE is suitable. If he keeps doing it, then it will obviously be a dissapointing result in which we have little choice but to trade him. However, AT THIS STAGE trading him is a bit of an overreaction. At the moment, his off field demeanour does not warrant a trade and he is an important part of our team and this would damage our game as well.

That being said, I agree that if such behaviour continues, more severe penalties must be given and eventually he will have to be traded. This is a situation I hope never occurs.

Hence, trading him at the end of the year purely for the off field mistakes that he has made to this date is not the correct decision. If such behaviour continues, trading should definately be looked at.

I agree that we shouldn't trade him unless a good offer comes in. Two weeks is good at this stage, and a more serious ban, to the point of a possible trade/delisting next time.

However, you replied to a post about trading him by saying that he is a gun. That implied quite clearly that you were not interested in that level of discipline due to Lovett's quality. That led to the statement that you were setting a different set of rules for good players.

Re: Lovett suspended for 2 games

Was just thinking yesterday how disciplined the team has been lately with suspensions and now this. So bloody disappointing. 2 big games coming up and he lets everyone down.

Does he have no respect for his teammates, club and fans??? Obviously it just doesn't mean as much to the guy.

He's very important to us but with new clubs coming in and draft picks having higher value in the next 2 years, anyone can be expendable.

What a load of rubbish.

He hasn't wanted to follow team rules for some time now? As Knights said, he's been exemplary since his pre-season slip up. That, at least to me, displays a willingness to follow team rules.

He's been a great worker on the training track all season.

What happened on Monday was extremely disappointing, and probably most disappointing for Andrew himself. It was undisciplined, but I'd be pretty certain it wasn't purposeful. To claim that he's deliberately evading team rules is too strong.

I'm sure he's disappointed, but he had a choice to make and he chose to put a good time ahead of his obligations to the club. It's his second slip up this year, so being "exemplary" for a few months doesn't excuse him. He can either be exemplary all the time or go and get stuffed. Great timing too

He slipped up the first time this season, as I said, that's okay but doing it multiple times in one year can be avoidable if you ask me, choices which he, Andrew, can only make.

Should we rescind Lovett's penalty

Surely the penalty must be reconsidered in view of the parlous state of the Dons injury list. And it could get worse before getting any better. The boys should put their heads together and weigh up credibility and principle issues versus fielding a team bolstered by Lovetts input. An appeal by Lovett against the severity of his penalty should reduce it to a suspended sentence.

Re: Dons to rescind Lovett penalty

Lovett earns plenty of $$$ and a simple fine wouldn't affect him at all. Doing time on the sidelines hurts and it might actually teach him something

I disagreed with the 2 match suspension to begin with (1 would have sufficed). That said, alot has now been made of the great way Essendon handled the situation, in comparison to North and Grant, that if we overturned it, we would have more egg on our faces than you could believe. Besides, Imagine the field day the cretins here on BF would have if we backtracked. ;)

Re: Dons to rescind Lovett penalty

Running scared already.

Stick to your own board if you're going to accuse us of being 'scared'.

We have every reason to be... 16 or so players injured, 4 to choose from who are hardly in good form.

Reducing Lovett's penalty would no doubt be good for us in a playing sense, but in a leadership role, this would reflect very badly on the younger group.
