Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

im not even an essendon supporter but i've had enough of laycock, trade him.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

You are missing the point.

These are the ones we can base our best side on. Not this season, but next years and the season after that. The rest we could do without. Trading four or five players will bring us at least one or two players of quality.

You must be kidding even thinking about trading Andrew Lovett.

Are you simply saying you want to trade our useless hacks?

If this is so, what would another club want in those players if a side that finishes in the bottom 4 doesn't rate them?

You've got to trade something of value to get some value in return... unless we're in trade with Freo! :D

I am a fan of Lovett, I love his balance kicking on the run... however he would have tremendous value and lets face it, we need to make tough decisions... gotta hurt a little to get a little!

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

Would you give up the chance to get a Rich or Hurley next draft and have them for 10 to 15 years if you could have someone like Richo, Macleod, West or Brad Johnson for a year, maybe two??

If you even think yes for a moment I for one am damn thankful you're not our recruiting manager.

Depends on the club. Take the Dogs for example, if they feel that lacking a true CHF is what is stopping them winning a falg in the next 2 years they may trade their first rounder for Lucas

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

Lovett is turning 26 at the end of this year.

What is your point? He is still inconsistent, he has been on our list for a while now and is really never going to be a superstar

It's only his 4th season of AFL football. Not many players are stars after 4 years.

He's right on track to become a quality game breaking player.

If there's anyone that should be shopped around with value it could possibly be Winderlich. Lovett has more value to our side than Winderlich and there'd be a lot of clubs after a speedy midfielder like Winders - Geelong, Saints, etc, etc.

I know you are only using them as an example but no one from our midfield would get a look at geelong. St kilda dont trade much so can rule them out. Do you see us having anything that Geelong could possibly want.

And in his 4th season, he is still inconsistent. If we get a pick between 15-20 for Lovett, I would be seriously considering it to be honest. We can always draft a similar player to Lovett anyway and to be honest I fail to see him as someone to be a game breaker other than the very rare occasions.

if st kilda dont trade much then how do you describe their recent history in trading for steven king, charlie gardner, adam schneider, sean dempster just to name a few!?>

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

king was a freebie..they hardly traded anything..pick 72 which they were not using anyway. The others would be the only ones and dempster was only traded as part of a package anyway

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

We can always draft a similar player to Lovett anyway

Then why would another club trade for him when they could draft a similar player as well ?

how does the word package change anything, okay so it wasnt a trade then. mcgough, maybe re-drafted? fiora, birss, m.gardiner also in recent years show the saints have had more trade activity than u claim and for very little return

Fiora traded as part of package. SK gave up Heath Black.
Verdict : St Kilda ahead

Birss and M Gardiner traded as part of package for pick 43 (Tim Houlihan WCE yet to play a game)
Verdict : St Kilda ahead

Schneider & Dempster traded for pick 26 (Brett Meredith Syd yet to play a game)
Verdict : Could be almost highway robbery

King and C Gardiner traded for pick 90 (not used)
Verdict : St Kilda ahead

St Kilda have done very well considering they have given up basically nothing.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

Every player has a price. Players like Laycock, Welsh and our middle tier players you would have to consider any potential deals for.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

Nathan Lovett Murray, McPhee, Welsh, Lovett

At least 2 of these should be up for trade.

McPhee and Lovett would have the highest trade value of those four. Early second round for both.

For the bloke that said Dempsey is a tradeable commodity, I tend to strongly disagree. He is one for the future and his run and dash off half back will be dangerous against every team in the competition over the next decade.

Fletcher, Lloyd, Lucas are 'untradeables'. Treat them with the respect they deserve. May well not be part of our next flag but we arent about to discard three champions of the club.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

If West Coast had pick 2 in this upcoming draft and offered it to us for Gumbleton, would anyone here bite ?

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

I reckon we should trade everyone but Hislop. Everyone's shit and Hislop will win everything by himself. Trade them all for Prismall actually. He's a superstar.

That would depend.

IF there was some way we could package it with another player or a draft choice and snare Foley or another high quality mid in that sort of bracket i think we should seriously consider it.

Of course that won't happen but the point is like RIG said, virtually every player is tradeable.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

Ignore List

:D:D:D

And to the other bloke, I'm taking the piss out of people who think that we should trade the entire squad etc.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

If you ask me, all the players from the last three national drafts (who are currently on the list).

Ryder
Dempsey
Neagle
Lonergan
(2006)
Gumbleton
Jetta
Hislop
Davey
Houli
Reimers
(2007)
Myers

I'd like to think that it'd be something like this if worst came to worst:
JW: So, Knighter is Gumby available?
MK: Yep
JW: Really?
MK: Yep
JW: So how much?
MK: Pick 2

and McKinley and Masten.
JW: Piss off.
MK: No worries, see ya.

Gumbleton is going to be a major part of our future, and, as I've said on other threads, it's easier to get a quality midfielder than a quality tall.

Having said that, if we get Pick 3 and West Coast pick 2 (as is highly likely), I'd seriously consider some sort of trade (e.g. Player + 3 for 2), to ensure that we get Rich rather than Hurley (both of whom would be very, very good pick-ups).

Anyway, my untouchables:
Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher: obviously
Houli, Reimers, Watson, Spike, Myers, Hislop, Lonergan: the future of the midfield
Neagle, Ryder, Gumbleton, Pears: the future of the key position
Hille: the premier Victorian ruckman
Davey, Jetta, Dempsey: the genuine talent
Anyone from the '06 and '07 drafts

I'm suspending judgement on Laycock, Slattery and Hocking until the end of the year. Each for different reasons.

The rest are probably "touchable" for the right offer, but this is by no means a "trade everyone who's not on this list" post. I'd consider a few for trades, but only a select few.

And by untouchable, I mean that teams are going to have to pay over the odds for them. "Pick one for Lonergan" and you'd think about it obviously. Paying market value for the above wouldn't get them for mine.
