Re: Warnock homeward bound

Ill back him in now... he will be a better ruckman than Sandilands, so im shattered we arent keeping him. The only one currently who is better than he will turn out at 24 is Cox.

Hopefully for him that works out, big call though. Freo could potentially do very well here.

Re: Warnock homeward bound

warnock is closer in talent to leuenbuger than wood

seriously, i know people get sick of hearing us, but we are gutted to be losing this guy. he is an elite talent, 205cm, excellent tapwork, agility and skills. guys like this do not grow on trees

Re: Warnock homeward bound

How would people compare Wood last year to Warnock this year?
I reckon if Warnock went to the Pies last year and Wood was out of contract and returning to Melbourne this year, you'd get the opposite opinions to what you'll get here. Warnock's shown a bit, but there's a lot of over-the-top hype about him from Freo supporters and for him to be on $1m is ridiculous. He's a solid prospect and nothing more.

He'll either go to Melbourne or VISY, I'm hoping it's the former.

Re: Warnock homeward bound

Realistically, all Melbourne need to do is offer him an extra 75k per year to choose us as his preferred club, and nix any possible deal with Carlton.

1 mil over 3 would be the absolutely Carltank could afford considering the huge contracts at that club and Robbie's lack of media profile (meaning they can't justify getting him on as a Visy contractor).

If Melbourne offered him say 1.1 or 1.2 over three, without any other ruckmen angling for a position as number 1 at the dees (like Kreuzer and Hampson at Carlton), you would think the offer would be too attractive in comparison, and that he'd nominate us as preferred club.

Then there's the fact we have his brother on our list.

I'd happily pay this guy an extra 200,000 over three years just to get him for 'free' as far as the draft goes. Unless of course we can come to terms with Freo for our 4th or 5th rounder or something.

Im sure the melbourne FC will thankfully have more honour than you do.

Where will you even get another 200k anyway let alone 1.2 mil.

Any way gutted just gutted.

He will be an awsome ruckman and can only wish him the best.

Well I hope not. Football is a business and we have to be ruthless about this sort of stuff.

Last time we got a ruckman from you we gave you picks 2 and 18 - and in return had to put up with a decade of bitching from Freo supporters saying qwe robbed you.

I think its about time we showed you what robbed really means.

The retirements of White, Yze and Neitz will leave us with about 2 million to throw around.

Any way gutted just gutted.

That's pretty classy of you in all seriousness.

I just find it strange that so many Freo fans didn't offer the same courtesy to Jeff White.

Re: Warnock homeward bound

no yze and no white frees up something like $1m in melbourne's salary cap.

there's no doubt we can afford him, and need him. it now just comes down to whether he wants to play for us, and whether freo can than engineer a trade. if he wants to come to us, then the ball might be - strangely enough - in freo's court. what are they prepared to accept?

Re: Warnock homeward bound

Dogs would be seriously keen.

How far off the mark would Farren Ray be? I don't know a lot about Warnock to be honest.

Re: Warnock homeward bound

MELBOURNE needs to reduce their player payments to 92.5% of the cap to get the special assistance from the afl. This year they payed close to 100% of the cap. getting warnock would stretch the reuced cap limits even with the retirements. maybe melbourne will trade some other older players to make room eg bruce, green etc.

Re: Warnock homeward bound

Question is any Melbourne club willing to offer their first pick?

Do Melb really have the depth to start trading their more experienced players??? (havnt followed them much this year to know....)

Re: Warnock homeward bound

I'd happily give up Pick 35. Its important Melbourne plays it's cards right here. We have all the advantages at this stage.

Project RWarnock has started. ;)

I would have thought it was more important Melbourne get Warnock. If you offer pick 35, we will trade him to Richmond or Carlton for something better. And if you think Connelly and Schwab will let him go to someone else, you are wrong. You will pay higher than 35 and you know it.

And don't give me the crap about PSD, Warnock has to want to be traded to the club, etc. He doesn't care, so long as he gets home to Victoria.

You're talking tough the same way you talked tough about Warnock even leaving Freo in the first place.

Fact is, we're in the box seat. We could offer him an extra 50k over what Richmond or Carlton want if he agrees to go to PSD. then you get nothing.

The only motivation for us to trade with you is if we want to use the PSD pick on someone else.

And don't give me the crap about PSD, Warnock has to want to be traded to the club, etc. He doesn't care, so long as he gets home to Victoria.

Exactly. So why would he agree to go to Carlton or Rich for less money, and not play with his brother, when he can go to Melbourne without worrying at all about the trade process?
