1Sydney Giants.png

Sydney Giants
Team colours:
  • Charcoal (from GWS)
  • Orange (also from GWS)
  • White (from both GWS and Sydney)
The Giants overthrow the Swans as the predominant team in Sydney and the result is the Sydney Giants. The mascot and colours are taken from GWS; the jumper designs are taken from Sydney, similar to their current home and clash. The Opera House of course remains white, whilst the orange yoke could be seen to represent a golden sunset sky.

2Greater Western Sydney Swans.png

GWS Swans
Team colours:
  • Charcoal (from GWS)
  • Red (from Sydney, and also pre-AFL GWS)
  • White (from both GWS and Sydney)
The Swans move into Sydney's west (and beyond) as the GWS Swans. The home and clash jumpers are both based on GWS's current jumper. The negative space of the G logo is replaced by a swan's head. Coincidentally, the team colours (and less coincidentally, circular logo) are not dissimilar to another Western Sydney team.

3South Melbourne Giants.png

South Melbourne Giants
Team colours:
  • Orange (from GWS, but slightly more reddish as a reference to Sydney)
  • Charcoal (also from GWS)
  • White (from both GWS and Sydney)
Football leaves New South Wales and returns to South Melbourne with the South Melbourne Swans. The home jumper is based on the original South Melbourne VFL jumper from 1897. The almost-black shorts are a reference to those worn by South Melbourne from 1922 to 1974. The clash jumper features a V, similar to that worn for the majority of South Melbourne's history, as well as the Giants pre-AFL. The preseason jumper is mostly orange and features a triangular logo, just like the one-jumper worn by South Melbourne in 1979 Escort Cup against South Fremantle.

4Canberra Swans.png

Canberra Swans
Team colours:
  • Orange (from GWS, but slightly more yellowish as a reference to the gold worn specially for Canberra's centenary)
  • Charcoal (also from GWS)
  • White (from both GWS and Sydney)
In a bonanza of TLAs (three letter acronyms), the AFL retreats from NSW to GWS's second home: the ACT. As well as being the footballing mascot of Sydney, the swan also features on the ACT coat of arms, which is the basis for the Canberra Swans logo. The home and away jumpers are based on Sydney's current home jumper, with Sydney Opera House replaced by Telstra Tower from GWS's Canberra jumper. The home jumper is almost black (or charcoal) as a reference to Black Mountain, the setting for Telstra Tower. The preseason jumper also features Telstra Tower, forming a sash as a reference to South Melbourne's red sash from 1907.

They're all great. All your designs are generally great. pie_machine, you're underrated.

The Sydney Giants home uniform is the most striking but the Swan head in the G of GWS Swans is the most clever.

:thumbsu: Top stuff. A++++

They're awesome pie_machine . You wouldn't happen to use Illustrator would you mate? Perhaps you could give a few of us a hand with a soccer template some time down the road (check out the A-League Kit Guide thread on this board)

Mate i've already posted a template.

I use Inkscape, which is an open-source vector editing program similar to Illustrator but with a few differences. I may be able to help, but there's a few things that don't exactly work between the two programs. Let me know how I can help, and I'll see what I can do...

1Richmond Blues.png

Richmond Blues
Team colours
  • Navy blue (from Carlton)
  • Pale yellow (a mixture of Richmond's yellow and Carlton's white, and also a reference to Carlton's heritage chamois colour)
The Richmond Blues home jumper is essentially Carlton's home jumper with the white CFC monogram replaced by a pale yellow RFC monogram (appropriated from Rangers FC).

2Carlton Tigers.png

Carlton Tigers
Team colours
  • Navy blue (from Carlton)
  • Yellow (from Richmond)
Carlton's CFC monogram is combined with Richmond's yellow sash to form a jumper suspiciously similar to the Claremont Tigersin the WAFL. Ironically, neither blue nor yellow is a colour of a real tiger. A clash jumper is created by swapping the colours.

3Richmond Blue Tigers.png

Richmond Blue Tigers
Team colours
  • Three shades of blue: navy blue (from Carlton), pale blue (similar to Carlton's M&M and 2011-12 clash jumpers) and a mysterious royal blue that doesn't appear to relate to either Richmond or Carlton
To reveal the mystery of the Richmond Blue Tigers jumper designs, invert the RGB codes of the clash jumper...

Next: Collingwood & Hawthorn...

1Collingwood Hawks.png

Collingwood Hawks
Team colours:
  • Brown (from Hawthorn)
  • White (from Collingwood)
Vertical stripes seems the most natural design for any merger between Collingwood and Hawthorn, with the home and clash jumpers replicating the pattern seen with Collingwood's home and clash and Hawthorn's home and away. The preseason jumper is based on Collingwood's swooping magpie from 2001-04with a hawk logo borrowed from Atlanta's NBA team (as is the primary logo).

2Hawthorn Magpies.png

Hawthorn Magpies
Team colours:
  • Black (from Collingwood)
  • White (also from Collingwood)
It may seem unbalanced that Collingwood retains both its colours (and Hawthorn gets neither of theirs) and also its mascot, however, it is undeniable that almost any team called the Magpies should have black and white as their colours. The home and clash jumpers feature two vertical stripes (or braces), just like Collingwood's 2011 clash jumper and Hawthorn's first ever jumper in 1902, as well as Hawthorn's HFC monogram. The preseason jumper features a bird head, just like Hawthorn's 2008-11 clash jumper.

3Eastern Hawks.png

Eastern Hawks
Team colours:
  • Black (from Collingwood)
  • Brown (from Hawthorn)
  • White (from Collingwood)
Both Hawthorn and Collingwood have worn V jumpers in their history: Hawthorn with their first VFL jumper in 1925 and Collingwood infamously in the 1982 Escort Cup against Swan Districts. The jumpers integrate that V design, as well as heavily taking inspiration from Hawthorn's 2002-03 preseason jumper. Also, the Eastern Hawks' logo has again been appropriated from the Atlanta Hawks.
4East Melbourne Magpies.png
East Melbourne Magpies
Team colours:
  • Black (from Collingwood)
  • White (also from Collingwood)
The Magpies again remain black and white for obvious reasons. The East Melbourne team is heavily inspired by nineties Hawthorn, with the logo styled upon the 1983-96 logo, the plain backs of the home and away jumpers, and the preseason jumper based on the 1996 jumper.

1Melbourne Lions.png

Melbourne Lions
Team colours:
  • Navy blue (from Melbourne, but also worn historically by Fitzroy)
  • Red (again from Melbourne, and also again worn by Fitzroy)
  • Gold (from Brisbane)
The Melbourne Lions' jumpers are based on Brisbane's premiership jumper (with Costa's exceptional logo). The layout of colours is based on Melbourne: navy at the bottom, red on the yoke. The kit is completed by Melbourne's iconic red socks. The clash jumper is a recoloured version of the home; white was deliberately chosen, not only to minimise clashes, but also as a reference to Melbourne's early days as the "Invincible Whites".

2Brisbane Demons.png

Brisbane Demons
Team colours:
  • Navy blue (from Melbourne, but also worn historically by Fitzroy)
  • Maroon (from Brisbane)
  • Gold (from Brisbane)
In the same way that the Brisbane Lions initial jumper was essentially a Fitzroy jumper with the red replaced by maroon (and the monogram replaced by a lion), the Brisbane Demons jumper is a Melbourne jumper with maroon replacing red (and gold numbers). The clash jumper features quintessential Queenslander colours - maroon and gold - so that when the Demons travel interstate, there's no doubt where they are from. The logo has been appropriated from the Arizona State University Sun Devils.

3Fitzroy Demons.png

Fitzroy Demons
Team colours:
  • Royal blue (from Brisbane, but also worn by Melbourne in the seventies and eighties)
  • Red (from Melbourne, but also worn by Fitzroy)
  • Gold (from Brisbane)
Football goes back to the past by returning to Fitzroy with brightly-coloured simple guernseys that wouldn't look out of place in the 80s. The home jumper is basically a Melbourne jumper with a gold trim. The away jumper has a Fitzroy layout: red body and blue yoke, with Melbourne's iconic red socks. The logo combines the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils logo with a VFL-shaped shield.

4Melbourne Bears.png

Melbourne Bears
Team colours:
  • Navy blue (from Melbourne)
  • Maroon (from Brisbane)
  • White (used sparingly by both teams)
Although the Bears' colours have been derived from Melbourne and Brisbane, the entire palette was worn by Fitzroy for the majority of their history. The jumper design is based on the last jumpers worn by the Brisbane Bears. Nevertheless, the home jumper also features aspects of the Demons' design: navy blue with a red (or in this case, dark red or maroon) vee shape. Rather than using a misnamed koala bear, the logo is borrowed from the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA.

I could have lived with this.

I could have lived with this.

Thanks. It's always good to get feedback, especially from actual fans of the teams. It'd be nice to see if Melbourne fans would be on board too, but if you ignore the lion, I think it's undeniably a Melbourne jumper.

1Gold Coast Crows.png

Gold Coast Crows
Team colours:
  • Blue (from Gold Coast)
  • Gold (from both teams)
  • White (used by both teams as a clash colour)
The Crows fly north to form the Gold Coast Crows. The colours align with other former and present Gold Coast sporting teams (Titans, Blaze, Aces, United): the blue represents the sea and sky, the gold represents the sun and the sand, and the white represents the surf. The home jumper is based on Adelaide's home jumper, while the away jumper is inspired by Adelaide's 2005 heritage jumper, with the GC logo replacing the AFC monogram.

2Adelaide Suns.png

Adelaide Suns
Team colours:
  • Red (from both teams)
  • Gold (again, from both teams)
  • White (used by both teams as a clash colour)
The sun sets in the south to form the Adelaide Suns. The home jumper is based on Adelaide's home jumper. The away jumper is inspired by Adelaide's current clash jumper: the "Murder of Crows"; the crows being replaced by rays of light.

3Gold Coast Crows.png

Gold Coast Crows
Team colours:
  • Navy blue (from Adelaide)
  • Red (from both teams)
  • Gold (again, from both teams)
  • White (used by both teams as a clash colour)
The Gold Coast Crows home jumper combines the horizontal stripes of Adelaide's jumper with Gold Coast's GC logo. The clash jumper is simply a white version of the home. The preseason jumper combines elements of Adelaide's 2010-12 clash jumper with Gold Coast's 2011-12 clash jumper to turn the crow head logo into a wave shape.

4Adelaide Suns.png

Adelaide Suns
Team colours:
  • Navy (from Adelaide)
  • Red (from both teams)
  • Gold (again, from both teams)
The Adelaide Suns jumpers are inspired by the Gold Coast's current clash jumper, whilst maintain the broad pattern of Adelaide's home jumper: navy yoke, followed by a red stripe, followed by gold... The home jumper represents a golden sun rising into a dark sky. The GC logo has been replaced by an A (for Adelaide, obviously).

GWS Swans
Team colours:
  • Charcoal (from GWS)
  • Red (from Sydney, and also pre-AFL GWS)
  • White (from both GWS and Sydney)

Coincidentally, the team colours (and less coincidentally, circular logo) are not dissimilar to another Western Sydney team.

The preseason jumper also features Telstra Tower, forming a sash as a reference to South Melbourne's red sash from 1907.

Coming soon: Carlton and Richmond...

I'm liking the West Sydney Swans. Its amazing how much better the Giants guernsey looks in black and red instead of the Giants hideous charcoal grey and orange. Terrible colour scheme. Hopefully eventually they will pull a Fremantle and find a way for their guernsey to look decent.
