I thought that Merrington wasn't given enough of a chance by the Carlton match commitee. He wasn't setting the world on fire, but he was slowly coming to grips with it in his last two matches, took a ripper of a mark last week. And he is also tall (which we need).

They've brought in two talls this week, so I guess that's the reason why they dropped him, but I don't see why they only gave him two games to prove himself. By bringing Prendergast in, they are basically saying, "well we tried Merro and he's no good, I wonder if this kid is any better."

I get the feeling we're never going to know how good Merrington COULD be.

Typical of this Carlton match committee though. They have no concept of showing confidence in a young player.

Last year they only gave him one game. How can you prove anything in one game?

Fevola, Houlihan, Plunkett etc etc.

Fevola was thereabouts in our goalkicking before he got injured despite starting almost every match on the bench and spending lots of time there. He's obviously a confidence player: show confidence in him by starting him on the ground. Especially when we don't have another full forward!!

Houlihan similarly has spent too much time on the bench; Plunkett killed them in the Ansett Cup and then again when he was picked, then was benched the next week, and dropped. All these three when they've got a real opportunity have been excellent.

fevola, well i agree he is a confidence player, and starting him on the ground probably would help, but... i dunno he can mark and he can kick but that seems to be it, i know we nee da forward but i'd prefer an aaron hammil type player, maybe even aaron hamil. my sister saw him in the reserves and was apperently not playing well at all, you can't bring a player into the side jsut to give him confidence, he needs to show taht he is good enough for the team and taht he is ready to play, i hope he is soon coz we bloody hell need him after that shocker of a performance
and houlihan again he had a GREAT 1st quarter against freo which was GREAT but since then, nothing, he's an opportinist great goalkicker when the opportunity arises but he won't create a play and he's a soft tackler if her ever bother sto chase the man with the balkl to be able to tackle him,
but jimmy plunkett, i am impressed with, again a great ghame against freo and has played well for most of the games he's played thsi year so i hope he jsut continues to get better
