Hi folks, I'll start with some comments about the recent Sweet FA history questions/discussion that have surfaced, and then get onto what I really want to say.
This is some brilliant discussion! You guys are pretty with it ... imagine being a footy history tragic FOR AN IMAGINARY TEAM!

A couple of things, the original Titans folks may no longer be around, that was a team started as "Team Kournikova" by "Mags" a pies fan who fell out with Bigfooty. I think another poster called "QT" was a major player in that league, too. The inagural leading goalkicker and equal B&F, AlfAndrews, I believe his real name WAS Alf ANdrews (another pies fan), he actually got a paper on footy published, got a doctorate, and can most likely be found over at Nick's Collingwood Board.
The "Bigfooty Dragons": They called themselves "Bigfooty Dragons" once or twice in their formative stages, but from then on were just the "Dragons". I, as admin at the time, and having a personal bias against teams having only a nickname for a name, continued to refer to them as "Bigfooty Dragons". So that's probably later caused confusion. Yes, same team, and yes, I believe its also the same team that merged with the Sharks.
The Dingoes and the Razors links were fairly flimsy, Dingoes finished last in 2001, and didn't have much activity, they folded, and new club Razors offered a place for the few active folks, the connection was about as relevant as when North Melbourne advertised for Roys fans to come join them in 1997. But it could be said there was a link of sorts.
I have fallen out of the loop on the fantasy footy, due mainly to severe personal reasons. I do have (somewhere) a huge Excel database of all results, with an obsessive level of reportability options in it. It was so data intensive I actually needed 3 spreadsheets - not tabs, not worksheets, but spreadsheets - to manage it; one for scores, one for player details, and I can't even remember what the other was for! If I knew SQL or serious database management, it would have warranted it. If you want, I can attempt to locate it all for yers.
Also, somewhere on this forum, there will be a thread called "Results Hub", which was a rundown of every match, with (from memory) many of them having links to the match threads. I can try to hunt that down for yers, too.
Re rookie v vet matches, state of origin, etc, there were no such comps in early years. In the first 2 or 3 years there was only a preseason knockout, and a standard H&A season plus finals series. There WAS an "All-Bigfooty" team announced, at least in the first season.
I have basically lost ability to host my own webspace, but I did once have a full website on Qooty (the sim used to run the matches) which had the rundown of seasons that the link someone posted earlier draws from. The website ALSO had references to other leagues, both at Bigfooty (BRLFFFL) and elsewhere (TFFL, Bombertalk FFL, ********* FFL, etc). One day.I'll attempt to get all this back online.
For now, its wonderful to see Sweet FA ( I was so proud of myself for thinking that league name up
) so solid and potent. Originally, when I started it, I wasn't even thinking about posting activity being such a major component. I was just happy to grab people's nicknames and produce gunk for them to read and chuckle over. After 3 or 5 seasons, the importance of active participation has come to the fore, these days often being used as selection criteria for team selectors. That's brilliant, something I'd not considered, and is probably the biggest true evolution of the simulation fantasy footy concept. The game of course runs on random numbers, but you guys have worked out a way that you can affect some part of it through your own actions, being posting a lot of good stuff in return for getting a guernsey for your team! Again, that's brilliant, and makes me feel all moist down there
So, as you lot bring towards a close the NINTH Sweet FA season, I'd like to thank everyone over those 9 years for making it such a success, indeed such a social and entertaining entity, that I started on a whim with only personal gratification in mind. Every now and then I stick "Qooty sim" into Google, just to see how a bit of stuffing about with QBasic on my part has evolved into a solid web presence.
Next year will be the TENTH anniversary of the Sweet FA, and, as Michael Veitch used to say on Fast Forward: "I think there's something special about that. Don't you?"
Good luck for those teams still in the finals, and when the anxiety gets high, the blood rushes and the goose bumps present themselves, just repeat to yourself: "Its only a sim ... only a sim ... only a sim"
ALL I WANT IS FOOTBALL
ALL I NEED IS FOOTBALL
ALL I LOVE IS FOOTBALL
FOOTBALL IS ALL
Back to it, lads.
Regards,
Kev
