I hope the link works. I also read the singer of testament has to find work when they're not touring. Clearly there's a lot less money in music than in the 70's. Is their a saturation of the market? Too many bands? Is it the ability to download music? I also think bands are on Facebook and twitter too much (they have to be, to sell a product) but we lose the mystique that bands like zep and purple had.

Even then only the bands you've heard of have made any money.
I remember a couple of members of Ugly Kid Joe literally ended up working in a car wash.
Since Napster unless you're massive there's no money in any band except for touring. It's why tickets to see bands have more than tripled in the past 15 years.
Have you seen "Anvil" the story of anvil? Certainly don't play metal for the $. Is all about the love.

I keep getting told I should watch it. I'll check it out. Cheers

All the money is in touring. I have seen some calculations of how much money bands make per show and some do pretty damn well out of it, but you don't know how much of that money gets sucked up by managers, the promoters etc

The Deftones for example make about $200,000 per show.

I wonder if sound guys, busses, lighting, roadies and techs have to get paid from that too? And the person running the t shirt stand... The big cost would be paying everyone when it's a "night off"! I wonder if the days of bands leaving $100 notes on their private jets covered in cocaine are over? Metallica and iron maiden still do pretty well, not sure if they do aswell as Zep back in the day?
