Health Methamphetamine

I truly believe welfare, the health system, the justice system, drug abuse, mental health and community happiness are interlinked. Telling people who don't have employment to sit down, shut up, accept their place in the outer suburbs, call them lazy, giving them no hope, no purpose and no opportunity to participate in society is a recipe for trouble. The risk of mental health issues, boredom, drug abuse or other dysfunctional behaviour is extremely high in our most vulnerable parts of our society. Yet for some reason we accept their poor treatment and suffering.

Spot on in other societies you were banished to the boon docks as punishment.

Community participation and purpose is important. Or a sense of purpose. Otherwise a real potential exists to waste away. I tend to steer more towards grants for community projects/new business ideas/even caring volunteerism getting people involved.

Don't agree with Work for the Dole. If the jobs that important pay people a living wage.

I don’t smoke it a lot and I’ve sure as shit never injected the stuff but I’ve smoked ice at least once a month for nearly 4 years now. To me it’s non addictive but it helps me sleep with mild insomnia rather than actually keeping me awake and paranoid like I’ve seen happen to others.

Addiction is a flaw of the weak

Helps with sleep?

It's a stimulant it should have the opposite effect.

I've never met a good person on this drug all untrustworthy losers.

start actually fighting the war on drugs would be a start. Mandatory unappealable deportation of any non citizen using any illegal drug. Minimum ten or 20 year sentences for manufacture, distribution, storage or sale. Instead of drug use being a mitigation factor, give anyone who commits an offence on drugs or to fund drug use a min extra ten years.

I can understand how and why you can describe addiction as weak, as it is an inability to use self control. However, addiction and repetitious behaviour is a normal human behaviour and possibly a survival mechanism. So we are all probably guilty of having a weakness whether it is a drug, drink, a poor food choice, attention, work, love etc etc.

On one hand it is completely frustrating to see people destroy themselves and others through addiction. Sometimes a negative feeling or resentment against these people is warranted but for many they just need a little help.

yep I agree

when I say work for the dole............I mean community. Community is something that has been lost in western society and it needs to return.

when I say work for the pension........I saw chinese pensioners doing arts, singing, tai chi etc in the park. I'd much prefer the "communist" solution to our nursing homes.

What other first world countries don't have this problem? Singapore? Japan? What are they doing differently?

they have a culture of "responsibility" to the nation where we are more individualistic

Yep. Imagine we had access to alcohol like the Japanese do - would be a warzone on the streets.

You mean similar to how the US treated crack? That sure as shit didn't work. Only made the prison industry a very rich industry, meanwhile families were torn apart and stuck in a vicious cycle for decades.

In my opinion a lot of it is down to education when it comes to meth. A lot of these morons who use and then end up addicted seem to think it's similar to weed or MDMA in harm when it absolutely is not the case. Combine that with how readily available it is and that's how we've ended up where we are today.

Locking up users has been a miserable failure in the US and has achieved nothing except destroy lives and families.

many companies test for drugs before entering work sites for safety reasons. Personally I would like to see this for all welfare, schools and driving. This identifies users but what then?

If we were serious on drugs where people test positive rather than dragging them through the criminal justice system, the focus should be on rehabilitation in remote camps (perhaps a farm) away from society, away from drugs and negative influences. When they have completed rehab (which is 12 months for meth) and provided full details of their supplier, then and only then can they return to society.

Of course the only solution is too tough and thus we will simply dick about around the edges, ruin people lives (the user, the families and the people they negatively affect) and see billions in wasted health, welfare and loss of productivity which could all be allocated to those in real need.

what is the come down like? is it like pills or LSD which can cause a real flat spot two or three days later?

So people on welfare need mandatory drug tests but Power Raid is allowed to take LSD and MDMA

Perhaps I’m not anti drugs

Perhaps I’m pro responsibility

Perhaps you struggle seeing the the key issues and principles in situations.

Perhaps you should consider other aspects in my comments to understand my position before you try and go on the attack.

You can take drugs but poor people can't and should be ****** off to farms if they do. You're full of shit.

again if you read my previous posts that isn't that case or sentiment.

Drug use is a natural part of life be it certain foods, alcohol, legal medication, illicit drugs etc. In fact if you are wealthy you are more susceptible from a statistics point of view to be addicted or abuse certain drugs. So being wealthy or poor has nothing to do with my comments on the responsibility to pass drugs tests for welfare.

In the case of workers having to pass drug tests to enter certain work site, they have to do so because they have certain responsibilities. It is deemed that these certain responsibilities are best adhered to with no drugs in the system. The same principle applies for those on welfare.

Unfortunately though, you can't help but get emotional and go the attack regardless of whether you are right or wrong. Just take a moment and grab a couple of tea and try and consider two very different concepts; one being drug use and the other responsibilities.

Ice makes you sleep? Are you sure it's ice?

But very infrequently - probably 20-30 times over past ten years

I dont consider myself a user in the way people think of that term

you've used meth dozens of times.
you're a user, regardless of what way people think of the term
