Boowaggan Road Park ‘n’ Ride

Metricon Stadium offers patrons a Park ‘n’ Ride facility on Boowaggan Road, Merrimac. The car park opens at approximately 12.00pm and will close approximately 1 hour after the final siren. There is limited parking available at Boowaggan Road Park ‘n’ Ride.

From Metricon Stadium: From final siren for 1 hour
Train
Patrons in possession of a valid ticket can catch regular Queensland Rail train services from any station on the Gold Coast line to Nerang station for free then board a free event shuttle bus to Metricon Stadium from the eastern side of Nerang station or walk to the stadium (approx. 2.4kms). Return shuttle buses will operate from Metricon Stadium back to Nerang station for 1 hour after the final siren.

If the AFL wants to make the Suns a success, part of the assistance should include twisting the Queensland government's arm to prioritise a light rail extension to Metricon. The buses are decent but more is needed to make it convenient to get to games.

I read his interview and it says he values Christmas AND New Year with the family so you'd think the very earliest he'd play is Tasmania Jan 3- even that seems unlikely

Not sure how many people on here follow the development of local roads but the state government and local council are currently in the process of creating an M2, which has been nicknamed the 'Coomera Connector'. The reason this is significant for us is because it's a major road that connects to Nerang-Broadbeach Rd and basically gives the northern GC resident a direct route to Metricon Stadium. Essentially, it should be much easier for the northern residents of our city to travel to the stadium. Better transport avenues to the stadium is always a good thing!

While I agree the parking situation at Metricon isn't ideal, there are countless benefits that come with our stadium connecting to a major road.

My understanding is they plan to run ferries to Metricon on game days so let's hope that comes to fruition for the first time when the Brisbane Heat play here on December 20!

Train goes to nerang then they run busses on game day.. ideally somehow get the light rail to service it but would be an expensive exercise I’d imagine

Good idea re: light rail BUT.......it's just been announced that they're extending the LR to Burleigh.......7klms in distance, and they've allowed 3 years to complete it......so I can just imagine how long they'd want to complete a spur to Metricon.........it would be well past my expiry date before they get to do that.

If it ran from Broadbeach south station to nerang station along nerang Broadbeach road it would be perfect but until there’s significant growth along that corridor for it then it’s highly unlikely to happen.. maybe once all the land near Carrara markets starts to get developed into housing then maybe viable but like you said will a very long time before that happens

So we know the Burleigh extension will open to the public in 2023 and I imagine an extension to the airport will follow shortly after (2026/2027). Beyond that, the local GC council has made it clear that east-west spurs will be next in line and it has been outlined that extensions to the stadiums will be prioritised. So the main competition we have is an extension to Robina. Unfortunately, the Broadbeach-to-Nerang extension doesn't service enough public hubs to be prioritised ahead of Robina IMO. A Robina extension would service Bond University, a major shopping and the stadium so it would be difficult for us to put forward a better case than that. I also doubt the AFL would put money towards securing a Nerang extension. 2030s look more likely.
